The food was BAD! I would never coming back for the food. No flavor, limes were old, the table was sticky… karaoke was good at least, but empty.

I had high hopes for this place because it seemed like a fun and tasty restaurant that my friends and I could get together and celebrate a birthday, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. When we walked in it was hotter inside than outside so that immediately off putting. However we all still tried to have fun and were chatting until they decided to blast the music louder than any nightclub I’ve ever been to right in our ears. Let me also note that there were maybe 10 people total in this restaurant at 7pm on a Saturday, my table being 6 of them. At this point some of us had only ordered drinks, which took about 20 minutes for 4 drinks to arrive. It was so loud that you could barely hear the person next to you. Now I understand completely it’s normal for there to be live music and for it to be fun, but I’m not sure who is having fun with that sort of thing going on.

Eventually one of my friends very politely asked our server, Gabriela, if it would be possible to turn the music down since it was so loud or if we could move tables. Instead of resolving our issue when there was quite literally and empty restaurant for us to be moved anywhere, Gabriela decided to completely abandon our table and stand behind the bar talking and laughing with her coworkers. One of the people at our table eventually asked a busboy for the check and after even more waiting we just had to go up to her at the waitress station and grab the check.

So to summarize we were there for about and hour, only had 4 drinks because our waiter didn’t seem to like us but then refused to actually speed up getting us out of there, and when we paid the automatic gratuity was added on to our drinks (which is actually for parties of 4 at this restaurant instead of 6 which is the standard) which is fine but it’s honestly just the perfect encapsulation of how much of a mess this restaurant is. It’s honestly shocking they are still in business. Needless to say my group walked down the street to Thai Chef, spent over $300, and had a very lovely experience there. Highly recommend that place fyi!

Hands down, the Chaufas from Kumbia is the fried rice I have had in Maryland. It was so good that my wife kept eyeing my plate and taking food from it. But while she was scooping my rice, I was taking bites out of the super tasty beef short rib that she had. Safe to say, we cleaned both our plates. There was a live band playing in the Rockville town square, that added to the nice atmosphere we had going. Definitely coming back.

We decided to check out Kumbia based on the reviews, but we left disappointed!
Celebrating the Colombian Independence
My girlfriend and I walked in and waited patiently for a table, it took 20 minutes for someone to approach us. We decided to sit at the bar instead. We immediately felt the room temperature being hot, NO AC, only fans were blowing within the restaurant.
Understanding that they were busy and shortstaffed.
They had a live band and dancers performing.

-We ordered marranitas for the appetizer
3 pieces in a order but we ate only 1
it was dry with no flavor
- cazuela de frijoles - too salty
- pandeja paisa - steak was dry, flavorless and tough, frijoles was salty, chicharron was hard and oily returned a 80% full plate
I asked for the check and let the bartender know our that we were not satisfied with the dishes and why did he charge us a 20% late night fee? This was 2pm in the afternoon.
I asked if anything can be done to the check? Nothing at all
No discounts, no removal of any item and the included fee was still on the $89 check
Paid and left. We won't be back.
Hope they do better!

I’m currently at Kumbia at the nightclub if you wanna feel endangered just come here. I’m currently using the female bathroom which they keep the door wide open. I tried closing the door and the worker gave me an entire lecture (male), I feel very uncomfortable. As a female I should be able to use the bathroom in private and safely without feeling awkward. Won’t be coming back.and the guy that opened the door was very rude like are you trying to see lady parts very weird

The South American recipes were good. If you want to enjoy Colombian, Peruvian, and Equatorial food, it's a great place to go. But it isn't a restaurant, the environment is like a Latin disco. You can enjoy singing in a karaoke or dance with your friends in a real Latino environment.

Visiting from out of town. Popped in for dinner and discovered an impromptu dance club within 20 minutes. Dance floor appeared between the tables and a DJ cranked up some salsa, merengue, bachata, reggaeton, and of course some Cumbys late into the night. Great time.

The food was almost great. The salteñas were delicious, but the outer shell (la masa) was too hard! It cracked, and al the juice leaked out.
La parrilla we had was prepared very well. Just wish the meat were thicker sliced but economy, right? That maracuya mousse - oh boy, i want seconds!

My friends/family and I dined at Kumbia in Rockville around 11:30pm last night. We walked in with 7 people and the owner Alejandra got us seated at a round table right away. She was very friendly, engaging and accommodating from the very beginning. The music and ambiance was great and transitioned into a night club setting. After stuffing our faces with great Ecuadorian and Peruvian cuisine we stuck around to enjoy more cocktails and music from the DJ. We ate, drank and danced all night. What’s not to love about a place like this? The severs and managers were attentive & excellent. I’ve been to Kumbia before a couple of times before but only for late night drinks. I can’t wait to come back for the whole experience again. Thank you Alejandra and staff for a wonderful time.
Salud!!!! 😉

The atmosphere was really nice, the servers were great as well. Our server was also the bartender. The drinks were not all that great. The food was mediocre. I and some of my friends ordered the steak options and they do not ask how you want it cooked and mine was well done and hard to eat. Some of the appetizers were appetizing. I can say the menu pricing was inexpensive. I am not sure If I would eat at this restaurant again but maybe give another Latin restaurant a try.

This is not a Colombian restaurant. Nor do they sell real Colombian food. They try to but failed.
