We had a most enjoyable evening and dinner at the inn. Kudos to the chef but it was the staff who made our experience so enjoyable. I’ve been an innkeeper and I know the job is basically to do what you can to make the guests experience be as good as possible. The staff here, to a person, gets that and were outstanding. Five stars plus!!
Food was excellent, service was poor at best. We were a 4 some and our meal came after an hour plus . The hostess and server both blamed it on a large party arrived before us. They could have been up front and tell us that we would have an hour delay . We should have been able to make our decision to wait or go elsewhere. Never again!
We waited almost an hour for our food and it was not even that busy. The food was delicious, but not $20-40 worth. The clam chowder was more like a potato soup. The wedge salad was great on flavor and proportion. The steak was prepared well with a super delicious sauce, but the fries were the kind of frozen to fryer fries you get at a diner.
It is beautiful inside, a nice view of the water, but not Long Pond. Inside was a single person restroom that had a toilet with no seat/lid (standing only).
Was an ok (3 star) experience, but that being said, not one in which we’re ever trying to come back.
Horrible service, horrible food. Considering price for food, this is the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to, bar none. If you read this review - yes, I promise you it is that bad, do your self a favor and go literally anywhere else.
I used to visit the village inn every summer with my family and haven’t been for 5 years or so. It did not live up to my memory. There are a number of places between Belgrade, Waterville, and Augusta that serve tastier and better quality food for half the price. The tuna was overcooked, the burgers were dry and served without all of their ingredients, the fries tasted like old oil and everything was incredibly salty. Our table tried 4 of the mixed drinks from their menu and they were not balanced or delivered as described in the menu. Tuna steaks and duck were served with plastic silverware and red solo cups for our water. For reference, the prices are on par or more expensive than comparable items at restaurants like 18 below in Waterville or David’s in Portland. The service, food, drinks, and overall experience was no longer what I would consider fine dining while the prices absolutely still are.
Ate at the restaurant last night. Great food and service. Will be back
The famous duck is reason enough to visit the restaurant, and such a quality product they should be careful about relying too much on it. We had birthday reservations, and were offered a few options for seating. We really appreciated we could bring our small pup with us at an outside covered picnic table(rather than running the car with ac), but unfortunately the table was covered with bird poop! We asked the server for anything that could be used to clean it up, but got one napkin, that's it. We continued to ask for more napkins, only receiving one at a time, so we wouldn't be sitting on bird poop, but 2 of our party of 3 ended up just straddling the bench so we didn't stain our clothes. Someone, anyone, could have just came out with a rag and soap or sanitizing cleaner, and we would've been good, and this was big chunky bits of bird poop. I won't get started on the drinks, sides, or the rest of it. The flambed duck is incredible and the complete star of the show! Needs a little improvement but very satisfied with what we came for!
Dinner was delicious. 3 of us had manicotti crepes filled with marscapone cheese. 3 others had the pork dish, which was equally as delicious. Nothing left to take home. Was definitely worth the wait. Will eat there next time we are visiting.
We just had my daughter's baby shower there. Such a wonderful easy experience from start to finish! Kate was very open to my thoughts, and what I wanted for the Baby Shower and she was able to provide everything I asked for. The room was beautiful! The food was absolutely amazing! Everyone in the party loved it. I can't say enough good about our experience. The staff were friendly and extremely efficient, and so very kind. I will definitely use this venue again! Kate, Tommy and JJ went above and beyond. Thrilled with my experience! Michelle Greenleaf

Never have I EVER seen a restaurant so destroyed by the waitstaff. I came with my family Sunday night for the Colby College Graduation, only to be served by a wait staff that was inexperienced, overwhelmed, and slow. The food was wonderfully prepared and presented, however, you could tell that it had sat under warmer lights for a little too long. On another note, our ribeye was cooked to perfection, but the quality of the beef was so poor it didn't even matter! Overall the food was very good. The service was atrocious and I personally wouldn't return for this reason. I've read some other reviews and ive seen poor reviews regarding the cousine, so maybe that's changed? Please train your wait staff. It is essential to the success of your business. I've also seen no response to most of the poor reviews on here! Try reconciling with your customers and having some accountability! It does the trick. We will be back next year to try the Village one more time, and hopefully it'll be good enough that I can delete this review.
We live in Central Maine and go to the Tavern a few times a year. The food is always delicious and the service is wonderful. The restaurant is quaint, by the water and very “Maine lake cottage”. Hope you all enjoy it as much as we do!
when for Easter the food was cold . and it was just bad . never go again .
Excellent food, wow, the duck!!
Favorite place to eat bar none. Arrive by boat and either dine in the main dining room, downstairs in the pub or Lakeside on the lawn for live entertainment. Food is excellent. I'd recommend the ribeye, but people swear by the duck. Service is professional and the place is beautiful.!
