Terrible food, very expensive, slow service. Sounded good but the execution was severely lacking. The driest, and most overcooked halibut I’ve ever had. Will not go back.

Terrible food, poor service, very expensive. We had high hopes and were tempted by the menu, it read so well. The appetizers were okay, the salads fresh but the entrees were awful. The halibut was so dry and over cooked it was inedible. No seasoning. The succotash undercooked. How could a chef even serve such a disaster? The skate was a salt bomb, literally all you could taste was salt and the sauce was left off and missing entirely. The filet of beef, was the star, very good but didn't make up for how disappointing the other meals were . Our server didn't check on us for a long time. When he finally did and we reported how bad the halibut was ($60) he did make an effort to rectify. I then waited close to 45 minutes for a replacement meal, the pheasant which was also poorly seasoned and overcooked. I gave up. At this point my entire party was not happy with how long we had to wait. My drink was never refilled once. It was not busy, now I see why. A complete failure of execution and an extremely disappointing experience all around. Get your act together Spruce Point Inn.

Dinner was very good and reasonably priced. Wine list could stand some expansion and listed dress code certainly isn't enforced.

Great location and potential for an amazing white table cloth dinner. Sunset was beautiful. Unfortunately the service and food did not deliver on the expectations. Although server was friendly, the overall service level was fair and slow. We arrived at 6:45 pm and didn't eat until 8 pm and the restaurant wasn't full or busy. Bread wasn't fresh out of the oven and our lobster halibut was a bit disappointing.

Took more than an hour to serve our dinner. Server was friendly and hard-working. The glitch seemed to be in the kitchen. Nice view, nice atmosphere, but the wait was painful.

Family dinner while staying at the Spruce point inn.Service was very attentive and personal and we really enjoyed our meals. We felt the appetizers were a little small but the entrees were decent portions with wonderful local flavor.

Absolutely gorgeous setting. It is worth going here just for the view. It is not the speediest of restaurants and the food is mediocre. But, this is not what you are going for. It is worth going to this restaurant for the view. I believe that the server was overworked. He needed help. But, it was an extraordinary wait for everything. (I don't fault him entirely, though. He had all the tables.) My pheasant was a little overcooked and my husband's dish was too liberally spiced. (He loves spicy food.) The parsnips were excellent.

We have been coming here for years each summer. We used to stay but it became prohibitively expensive so we come for dinner. It is not exquisite like it was when it was the 88 and each year there is change and our experience is varied. This time the dining room was quiet with only 6 tables seated which was nice. Shocked that it's only open 4 days a week now. Clive was attentive and we were not rushed. The pace was good. The bread was stale as a rock and we heard other diners clanking to cut open their rolls too. Passion Berry cocktail was ok. Not amazing-seemed watered down. Oysters Rockefeller appetizer was excellent. I had the skate entree and my husband had the scallops. These were well prepared and very good. The tiramisu and blueberry ice cream desserts were very good as well. A bit surprised they maintain that they have a dress code but two gentlemen were wearing shorts and this is stated as not permitted. My husband tried this a few years ago and was spoken to about it. Either this is your policy or it isn't. Also have to say-please consider different chairs. All seats lean backwards which is not conducive to dining. I had to perch on the edge to sit forward. Overall a nice evening but not the top experience we have had there.

Everything was done exceptionally well for a special birthday celebration. Clive, Tanika and the rest of the staff went over the top.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Spruce Point Inn. The location was great and the grounds were well kept. The Whiteclover restaurant was over-priced and the menu was too limited. The Stag restaurant on the other hand was very good.

This restaurant, tucked into the Spruce Point Inn, was very good. Service was outstanding and the ambience was nice, though there was a strong musty smell to the room, probably from the thick carpet. The prices were higher than we usually pay but the food was worth the extra treat.

We went to Whiteclover expecting a superb dinner, given its location and reviews. We were sadly disappointed. The biggest issue for the evening was the staff and service. "Indifferent at best, negligent at worst" would be the best summation. When we arrived, the dining room was virtually empty, but we were taken to a table with virtually no view (one of the biggest selling points of the restaurant on line). We asked to be reseated at a table that had a very good view, and were told that it was not possible. No one sat at the table for the entire evening, and the restaurant remained lightly filled the entire time. Despite that, our waitress was slow in virtually every step - taking drink orders, delivering drinks taking dinner orders, checking in during the meal etc. As we were having dessert (at 9pm) the staff apparently decided it was time to close, and signaled this to the patrons by turning on the air conditioning that was directly over our table. We got the point. Finally, for a restaurant of this supposed caliber, the wine list was limited and unimpressive. All in all, a disappointing experience. There are many good places in the Boothbay Harbor area to have dinner and the people there are generally polite, professional and interesting. They apparently hire only the disillusioned at Whiteclover.

We've dined a number of times at Whiteclover, but this particular time was enhanced by the pleasure of having Maria as our server. She was warm, attentive, professional, and a delight. The room is elegant, the glassware, gorgeous, the lighting, peaceful, and the jazz music tasteful and perfect. The views of the sunset are wonderful, but we especially love that there's no traditional decor here that places you in Maine - There's plenty of that just down the road in Boothbay Harbor. The menu and cocktails did not disappoint.

Excellent service. Food pretty good with the exception of the risottto cake (scallops plate) not quite a risotto. Excellent and fresh produces. A shame no champagne by the glass or at least half bottle for such a level of quality restaurant.

We went this year since our experience last year was great, five star and worth the pricey menu.. This year unfortunately was disapointing. The drinks and oysters were great but the entrees have gone down hill, The food was overcooked with little flavor and you could not find the lobster in the lobster dish. This may be the reason the room was half empty. Desserts and coffee were excellent. We hope they get their act back together since it was a great restaurant once.
