Way too much to put up with. My stay at Oakland House, for a nearby wedding, left a bad taste. The main issue was the lack of accessibility after hours. The incident involved a gigantic insect, apparently lodged in the lamp, that careened off the walls of my room. These insects are apparently native to Maine, but it was impossible to sleep--and it was terrorizing. It took 90 minutes before the thing landed on the floor and I could kill it. I called the help numbers listed, but all went to voicemail. No one was available. This egregious lapse in security was completely unacceptable, especially given that Oakland House is in the middle of nowhere.
When I posted a review to TripAdvisor, describing the incident, the owner responded immediately to say that they had remedied the situation by adding another help number. I am glad they did this, but the owners never reached out to me personally, even after I wrote several emails and called. The proper thing to do was to comp me for that night's stay as a show of responsibility.
This sense of cheapness pervades Oakland House. The fees are on a luxury level, yet services are poor. No one to help with luggage. Noisy portable AC. No closet, and the armoire did not have a bar on which I could hang clothes. The lack of a restaurant was written off by the owners as "oh, the chef left at the last minute," a victim stance. Hire another and pay the person decently. The coffee that was provided--by a rude person--was insufficient, as were the totally unappetizing plastic-wrapped, mass-market muffins.
That said, the rooms were clean and the bathroom large. Nice towels. Mainly, not enough of anything, including staff.

A beautiful, classic New England inn, kind staff, gorgeous private land and beach. Just overall a great stay!

Well kept, Understand, Refined and beautifully managed. The Littlefield’s again brought same level of professionalism and New England Refinement they do to internationally known summer camps to boutique hospitality. Will visit again recommended to visitors.
Rooms: Unfussy, comfortable and not overly detailed the way a proper New England Inn should be.

I didn't actually visit there recently, I worked there for a season several years ago and I enjoy checking out the website a couple of times a year, but I do have friends that stay there every other year and I get updates from them. In fact they visited this past September and like always their stay was fantastic! From my own point of view it's the most beautiful part of the U.S. and this place is secluded just enough that the nights are so beautiful and peaceful. But you are a short 15 minute drive from Deer island and Bluehill then only a short seinic drive to places like Acadia National Park,Bar Harbor, Bucksport and many other coastal towns, believe me a stay at The Oakland Houses will give your top three most enjoyable vacation a run for your money and with the surrounding areas you can't go wrong, better have plenty of space on your device for pictures! Please checkout their website for more info. Tell them Lynn sent you..

I can’t say enough about how magical this place is. I’m a very picky hotel patron and I absolutely loved it here. It’s very clean but still quaint and charming. We loved swimming in the ocean, sitting on the porch, eating at restaurants nearby. 10/10 would recommend.

Best vacation I have ever been on

This place is magical. The setting is superb and so tranquil, the private beach is lovely, and it's very easy to explore some of the most beautiful parts of Maine nearby (Deer Isle, Blue Hill hikes, Acadia is only an hour away even), and the inn is very comfortable and cosy. I will be back. A bit of a shame they weren't serving any food for any meals which we weren't prepared for but otherwise a wonderful stay.
