Have driven by but finally stopped. Will definitely be back, opened in 1977 and likely has not changed but no need to do that. Fresh sub rolls. Great choices. Turkey deluxe came with real turkey and stuffing and cranberry. So much better than franchise places. Friendly service and cheaper than the franchise down the road. Not fancy. Plenty of charm. Cold- might not want to be there on a winter day.

5 Stars as usual! So glad The (Old) Sandwich Man is still open. This is a home based operation that has been around for at least 30 years… Whaaat??? Whyyy??? Hooow??? Because they offer consistently good food at a decent price and they don’t screw it up! When you order a sub, you get a sub of quality meats, cheeses, awesome bread, & fresh veggies. Oh and a smile & a thank you. How novel is that. Subway, Jersey Mikes and all the rest of the chains can’t hold a candle to this great place that looks like a hole in the wall. Not really a place to dine “at” but to get to go or delivered. Although, the place is clean & good for a quick bite. They closed downtown but I think this is the last location left. So glad its still open. Thanks for all the great years! Hate the chain sub shops and all local pizza shops in central pa have the same lousy bread recipe. Love this place because I think they get their rolls from Amoroso’s in Philly. Keep up the great work!

We've driven past the Sandwich Man many times without stopping. Today we saw their sign for lobster rolls and we thought let's give it a go before heading back to New Brunswick. One of the best decision of our entire Maine vacation! We've had many, many lobster rolls in both Atlantic Canada and New England and the Sanwich Man's were hands down the best we've ever had! Loaded with the freshest lobster you can imagine in delicious bread with just the right amount of mayo. We ate outside on the picnic tables enjoying the beautiful flowers. So glad we have to drive to Bangor in a few weeks as it means another stop for the best lobster rolls!

I always stop on the way back from Nova Scotia. Excellent food, great prices (especially after two weeks in Canada!) I always get my last lobster roll of vacation here, and it's always fantastic. They have been here for years, and I am never disappointed.

My wife and I had been here many years ago on the recommendation of a border guard. He was right, this place is excellent. We actually made the trip specifically to have lunch at this hidden gem. My wife had a lobster roll and I had the turkey deluxe.....which is like Thanksgiving Dinner shoved into a delicious loaf of bread! The service is friendly. The grounds are beautiful, but the best part is the exemplary quality and value of the sandwiches. Don’t miss it.

Very very hot day, stopped here for lobster roll. I am gluten free so the lobster was served on a bit of lettuce. Delicious, lots of lobster, fresh, not overcooked. Staff was lovely and international. Several customers stopped in while we were there, an electrical worker, a couple with toddler. Staff was helpful and lovely to everyone. Food came quickly. Very simple decor. I'd go out of my way to eat there again,

We had lobster rolls for lunch at this cute, funky sandwich shop. The sandwiches are made to order while you wait, and they were delicious and quick. And the grounds were beautifully landscaped with colorful annuals. You can eat inside or out. A fun place - we recommend it!

Repeat out of town customers. Every sandwich we’ve ever had here is really good. This time it was the chicken salad and turkey deluxe - yum! We look forward to our next visit to the area so we can try some more sandwiches!

Don’t go home without eating here. The Dagwood is my all time fav! It’s a small, quaint sub sandwich restaurant.

My travel friend and I were on our way from Kennebunkport, ME, to St. John, NB, and were really, really hungry for lobster rolls. We came over a hill and there was The Sandwich Man! Let me tell you, this is the best place on the route. Actually, it is worth driving out of your way to put it on your route! Their lobster "sub" is served on freshly baked bread and holds at least an entire lobster! There were entire claws in the sandwich! We enjoyed every glorious bite outdoors on a picnic table. Then, ten days later on our return trip, we planned our entire day around being at The Sandwich Man for lunch. If I didn't live about a 1000 miles away (upstate NY), I'd be there on a very regular basis. P.S. Great staff, too.

I love the sandwiches here, and have visited many time over many years. My only problem with this place is that it seems to be closed half the time I visit Calais. Make sure you check if it's open before travelling to it, especially if you're crossing a boarder.

Had lunch here the other day while shopping in Calais. It's is a nice clean shop with a lovely flower lined walkway. It welcomes you in. We had lobster rolls which were very good with a pretty good amount of lobster with claw meat on top! A nice touch. Odd though- they serve fresh onion on it! We asked for that on the side. Next time we would omit that even though we like raw onion. The rolls they use are especially good. Not the typical small hot dog bun. It's a bit larger and has a slight crust to it though soft inside. Even though it was in the middle of the afternoon they had some traffic thru the shop. We saw a couple come in especially for the pastrami, so we will try it next time.

We stopped here for lunch and were able to place our order right away. The staff working at the counter were helpful although the person manning the register didn't appear happy to be there. We both got meals that included our sandwich, a bag of chips, and any drink from the cooler. There were lots of drink options, probably more than most businesses carry. My husband got an 8 inch steak and cheese sub with peppers and onions. He said it was delicious but he was both surprised and disappointed that there was no ketchup to put on the steak. I had the 6 inch lobster sub. It came with lettuce, mayo on the bread, a healthy serving of lobster meat, and chopped raw onions. It's one of the most reasonable lobster sandwiches I've had ($10.99) and it was delicious, with the exception of the raw onion. Be forewarned if you're a purist! The best part about the meal was the bread! It was incredible!

I just found this place in July of 2016 and I love it. The bread is wonderful, but your sandwich isn't all bread. I have tried several of their sandwiches and have yet to find one I didn't love. It is hard to make a choice on the best for sure! If you haven't tried it ... please do. You don't know what you're missing. I try to limit my visits to once a month. It is difficult.

It's the best sandwich place around. It's no like Subway where all the sandwiches taste the same. The bread is excellent fresh baked and the mayo is great. I don't know why but the mayo taste way better than other Sandwich shops. The service is great and will make sandwich to your liking.
