I finally had a chance to check out this newer NY-style pizza spot in Hallowell, and it did not disappoint. The crust is exactly what you want—thin, crispy, and holds up beautifully under the toppings without getting soggy or being greasy.

If you've yet to enjoy a Detroit-Style Pizza, now's the time and Lately's of Hallowell is the place. Yesterday I enjoyed one of the best pizzas I've ever had. And I have enjoyed a lot of Pizza. While you're there be sure to order some NY style bagels. A true Gem on the Kennebec River in central Maine.
Fantastic pizza!! The only real NY style pizza place around, better than “the other guys” in Topsham. I’ll drive by 15 pizza places just to get their pizza

Lately's is a fantastic pizza spot known for its real NY or New Haven style pizza, the closest of its kind in the area. The pizza is crispy and delicious, with a perfect crust that is not too thin, chewy, or crisp. The delicious marinara sauce is not too sweet, the cheese is right, and there's minimal grease. They offer simple toppings like pepperoni and mushrooms. The staff is awesome, super helpful, and friendly, providing great service. The manager is always there and cares about quality. They are open late and have a great beer and soda selection. Customers also love their breakfast sandwiches. It is considered the best in the area, better than other local places, and worth a special trip.
