The burger was delicious and the drinks were fun. Great place for lunch or a casual dinner. I had the Black Cow Cooler and it was refreshing and yummy. My husband loved his root beer float. The root beer was great! We had the mushroom, swiss burger. Our server was friendly and service was quick.

Got grilled cheeses, tomato soup, brussel sprouts and dirty fries and it was all delicious. And the best part is that it is in a really beautiful building! Definitely recommend going.

Burger was delicious. Service was good and fast. Only thing I didn’t care about was the throw all your food in a pile and make you figure it out at the table thing. Felt sloppy and lazy.

We dropped by Black Cow Burgers & Fries in Portland for lunch, and it was a pretty pleasant experience.
If you're in Portland and want a laid-back place for a burger and fries with a bit of flair, Black Cow is a solid pick — especially at lunch with their combo deals.
Black Cow sits in the Old Port / downtown Portland area on Exchange Street, which is a lively spot with foot traffic, shops, cafés, and nearby waterfront charm.
The lunch menu was offers good value, with combo deals (burger + fries + craft soda). The burgers were tasty and the fries were decent.
Because of that, it’s easy to combine a lunch here with a stroll around the neighborhood. Service was friendly and relaxed. The staff made you feel welcome. The place has a fun, casual ambiance, with a bit of hipster / urban flair.

The owner of the place is such a jerk that he openly tells people his newborn is a mistake.
Stand in the upstairs bathroom and feel your feet slowly sliding apart.
The place is nasty.
Use the downstairs bathroom & notice the dirt as you descend or as you enter the restroom.
These are the public areas!
Imagine what you don't see.
Why people pay to eat here is beyond me.
I barely ever ate here as an employee, declined my free meal daily.
Oh yeah, He has marked me as terminated for abandonment of my job after I quit!
Classy.
Everything is made in house! Burger was delicious! Our bartender was AMAZING! Highly recommend this place!

Our server was very nice, but the food was very disappointing. Extremely greasy, bland, and overpriced. $16 for a subpar sandwich — fries not included.

Sever was amazing with suggestions and offering their homemade ice cream. But the burger was out of this world delicious and still tasting that double juicy fresh burger.
Don't usually take my time to rate good but this one 😉 was worth my time to share.

Located in busy/trendy downtown Portland a few short blocks in from Commercial Street.
Opened late until 10pm-12am daily.
Great environment with lots of seating.
We had a few burgers ($12-15) to go. All were really good…seemingly smash-burger style with fresh toppings. We also had some fries but they were pretty soggy…could have definitely stayed in the fryer for a bit longer.
Great staff…very helpful and friendly.

The onion rings!!!! DO NOT SLEEP ON THE ONION RINGS. Hamburger was delicious. maybe a tad bit on the salty side but the meat was so tender. Grilled cheese was so crunch and delicious. I added tomatoes. Perfection. Service is super friendly. I loved it. Wish they had more Italian white wine selections. But my own problem!

We went here with a group of our friends and were pretty disappointed to say the least. The food was pretty average and severely overpriced. They put us right by the kitchen and it was so hot most of us were sweating. I got the fish sandwich which was good but pretty small for the $17 price tag and didn’t come with anything else. The fries were very sad and soggy. We all ordered individually but when they brought out the food, they just put all the orders on two trays, so we had to distribute the food ourselves. We go to Maine quite often but will be sure we avoid this place.
