Tonight, this deering ice cream van came driving down our private camp road going way too fast for this area. My daughter saw the van go by and noticed there were books also. She wanted to see if there were any she would like so she stopped the van on the way back by. She looked at the books, a lot of Stephen King and the like, and decided there was nothing there that she wanted to buy. The man was EXTREMELY rude. He said that we can’t just stop him if we aren’t going to buy anything and he said something else with that rude attitude but honestly I was so shocked at his attitude and look on his face I didn’t hear it. I mean come on, these are kids. And how do we know if there is anything we want until we look?! All we can see are books on a shelf as he drives 25 mph past us and he shouldn’t be going more than 15 especially if he is hoping to actually get some business. There is no law saying you are obligated to buy when you approach an ice cream truck. And you can be sure I will NEVER buy from that guy if and when I come across his truck again and I will educate others of our experience with him as well. He is not welcome to pass down our private road again. He is rude and he drives too fast where he is expecting children to be out in the road playing. I’m so upset by this guy. I can’t believe how rude he was.
Response to you: Teenagers are still kids. They were in no way discourteous! You were absolutely going too fast. You have another reviewer with that complaint. Explain to me how someone is supposed to decide if they want to buy something from you if they can’t see what you have? I would think anyone reading how you respond would see how rude and discourteous you are. We did nothing wrong except to expect a nice person operating that van. This is a private road and if I see your van here again, I will ask local authorities to assist because you were driving too fast.
