The food is fresh, innovative and delicious. Scallops were beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. The haddock was perfectly prepared and worth licking the plate clean. Fresh local food prepared uniquely!

We arrived with out of state friends for dinner on a Wednesday evening. We'd booked this night 2 months prior as they had heard about Fore Street and wanted to try it. No one was disappointed in anything from our drinks to our entrees. The food, service, and overall ambiance were outstanding. We had oysters, elk kielbasa, calamari, and venison golumpki as our apps. All were delicious. The entrees were skate, crabbed stuffed haddock, and chicken. No complaints on anything. Our server was friendly and very informative regarding our questions regarding certain menu items. It was a great experience!

Very nice presentation. Very noisy energetic atmosphere. Great bread from the bakery downstairs. And the food is very creative and delicious. I try to eat here whenever I am in Portland.

Everything was absolutely delicious! Not just a dinner, truly an experience. We had local oysters, foie gras, mushrooms toast, scallops app, bourbon chicken and the skate wing. My boyfriend loved watching the chefs work in the kithcen. Lucas is a gem and made for a lovely evening. Thanks for everything!

We came in last night for our anniversary and had another wonderful experience at Fore Street. The food was delicious and our waiter (Adam?) was very helpful. We will definitely be back again!

I can't really begin to explain how good this food was. I have been to many, many restaurants all over the country and world, and this may be the best food I have ever had. Every dish was served amazing in its own way. Each with its own unique flavor. I melted into each dish. I got the oven roasted mussels, venison steak (seasonal) and cornbread as a side. The worst part was when it was all over. Highly recommend.

I had a terrible experience at this restaurant, and I truly believe I was treated differently because I am Mexican
.
The young male host was extremely rude and unprofessional. When I approached the stand, he refused to take my name for a table and even said, “I’m not going to call your name.” The young woman working next to him looked shocked and uncomfortable by his behavior. I tried asking in several polite ways if there was any possibility of making a reservation or waiting for a table, but he said “no” every single time.

As I walked away, I heard him laughing and mumbling something under his breath. When I turned around and asked if he said something, he didn’t deny it. I stepped outside to avoid making a scene and told my boyfriend (who is white) what had just happened. He went back in to ask for a table himself — and suddenly, there were plenty of reservations available for that same evening.
I waited in the car until our table was ready. When I walked in, the young host’s face completely changed. It was clear he knew what he had done.

I had been looking forward to returning to Portland for a whole year just to eat here again, but after this experience, I will never go back. No business should allow someone so disrespectful to be the first face guests see. The amount of harm one rude employee can do to a restaurant’s reputation is tremendous.

Truly disappointing.

We loved our experience at Fore Street! We had the pleasure of sitting at the bar and really enjoyed all of our cocktails, food, and great conversation with the bar tenders.

Had dinner here and ordered the squid, scallops, and steak. Everything was fresh and cooked perfectly. Being from NYC, I was surprised that the prices here were better and the portions were actually bigger. My server Sydney was nice and attentive throughout the meal. The restaurant has a really cute vibe, warm and cozy without feeling too formal. My only small suggestion would be to play some low-volume jazz when it’s not too busy since it can get a little too quiet at times. Overall, a great dining experience.

I eat here several times a year. Most experiences have been solidly positive. Well, I guess no one is perfect as last evening was disappointing, although I met some great people at the bar! I started with the foie gras which was amazingly good if not great. I then ordered the vegetarian entree, a root vegetable cottage pie which was so salty it was inedible, unless your goal was to set a new high blood pressure record. It was one of the only dishes I have sent back in my 60+ years. I replaced the salt porridge with venison with mashed potatoes. The dish was to be served rare, except the grill station must have misread the ticket and prepared it RAW. Since they slice it before serving it was obviously raw, but they still served it. I guess it was my day to try the primal/ancestral diet! To add insult to injury the mashed potatoes morphed into cold, flavorless roasted potatoes. Like eating cardboard, but as I have had enough cardboard potatoes at nameless chain restaurants in my lifetime, I just didn't eat them. I was planning on dessert, but had a martini instead to dull my feelings of culinary abuse for $130. I didn't mention the cold bread that was served mangled by whoever sliced it. Well, not sliced, more like cut with a hatchet. The butter it was served with was addictively good, though. Service (at the bar, where I ate) was exceptional if one does not consider the hostess part of the service team. Halloween is around the corner, so I assume the hostess was getting into her ghoul character early. For heavens sake smile and at least try to make guests feel like they are welcome. Some folks are not cut out for the hospitality industry and she is one of them. If the bartender that waited on me wasn't so good this would have been a 3 star rating. Excellent service makes up for many a kitchen sin.

This place was amazing. Everything we had knocked it out of the park. Incredible sauces. Whoever the chef is, they are very tallented. Had croquettes, haddock, hangar steak and foie gras roulard. Cant wait to go back!
Edit: we came back the very next night because the food and service was so good. We waited 2 hours to be seated in the dining room instead of the bar. Totally worth it we thought. Started fine but soon the table next to us got on calls to discuss their apartment rent, on speaker. After quite a while we asked why they don't just take it off speaker since they are already holding it to their ear. They argued, we argued. The manager came by and asked if we wanted to move. We said yes. Then when she came to move us, she asked if we were going to cause additional problems. I questioned what that meant and she stood by it, and I said we would just leave.

I was disappointed by the veal saltimbocca — the veal was dry, very tough, and too thick a cut. The prosciutto was burned in some spots, and the flavors were bland. Other than my entree, though, the rest of the dishes (raw oysters, halibut with crab stuffing, cottage pie, charred cabbage salad) were excellent.
