We stopped in without any prior research or knowledge of the establishment, and found ourselves delighted with the friendly service, inspired cocktail creations, and exceptional food. The haddock chowder was smokey from bacon and studded with large chunks of fish. The mussels were plump and covered with melted leeks and white beans in a savory broth. The lobster roll is what you hope and expect from Portland.

We tried several of the cocktails, from the Irish coffees to the Muscle Car and the Cease & Desist -- All truly outstanding.

Great hang and no pretense! Hoping they reprise the Thanksgiving Day late nite reboot this year! Henry’s is great anytime of year, but there’s nothing better than the late nite Thanksgiving dinner on a sandwich, with drinks and a “green tea” chaser! Cheers!

There are a LOT of touristy restaurants in the Old Port section of Portland, Maine and you should avoid the vast majority. But Henry’s Public House is right there among the cool art shops, pot dispensers and chochky shops with a wonderful chef and a great atmosphere. The food is really good! We were attracted by the Longfellow vibe, dark, rich decor and the menu. We started with raw oysters and haddock chowder. They were both meaty and delicious. The haddock chowder was very buttery and chunky and the oysters were very fresh. We split the Hank burger which came with great fries. The burger style is two thin patties with all the extras, like a super high quality Big Mac, and I mean this in a good way. It was very delicious! I had an Old fashioned that came with a square ice cube with the Public House name etched in the ice. Very nice. My wife’s California Cab was great. I switched to Guinness, which was on tap, to complement the burger. Our server was fantastic. We chose the fudge sundae for dessert and it was one of the best we’ve had! Complaints: The men’s bathroom was too small for two urinals without a splash/privacy wall between so that was weird, even though I love peeing six Inches from the next guy ?. The only other complaint is the jazz band played too loud for the space and we couldn’t hear or talk at all after they stated playing. The jazz music was great but it needed to be about 30 decibels lower. We literally could not hear or talk after they started. That said, we recommend Henry’s Public House and will come back the next time we’re in town!

Stopped in here for a few drinks mid-afternoon. Very popular with locals and tourists – live music was acoustic so you could still chat easily. Once it got closer to 4 it became very busy, so there must have been early evening popularity there. Cool older décor. Did not get food, but atmosphere was super. Highly recommend.

This was our first dinner in Portland. It was awesome. We went as part of a big group. The service was great with a very attentive and friendly waitress. I tried the lobster roll, which was excellent, and my wife had the chicken. She thought the chicken was delicious, which is actually saying a lot because she generally does not like chicken.

This place has been really hit or miss for me. When they are on, everything is fabulous, but you have to go at off-peak times. Otherwise, you have to stand at the bar upstairs while the staff waits on customers in the order of how expensive their outfit is, and you pay $15 for a half full drink with no alcohol in it. After several trips over the past year, I'm done with this place after my last outing.

Have had several bad experiences with other clientele here. Watch your drinks carefully and do not leave them unattended. While this isn't TECHNICALLY the establishments fault, I can't recommend it as they lack the security numbers to handle the amount and type of customers.

my friends and I love this place so much!
Our fave drinks: after work cigarette, connecting flight, cease & desist, 34th St. Julep.
Food recs: oysters, Long Fellow Burger, and Ciambotta.
The staff are so nice and attentive but our server, Mina, was especially amazing! Henry’s is everything you want in a restaurant.

The worst scallop I've had to date in my travels. Paid 23 dollars for a child's portion and had the scallop suffocated with a awful Mustard sauce of some sort. However, the presentation was very cool. Chef, evolve please!

The place offered good service however very disappointed in the food. The sauce for scallops ruined the delicate flavor of a well cooked scallop. Although generous with the crab cake, they were dry (overcooked) and the lemon dressing/ sauce was too much; very thick, pasty and unappetizing. For the amount of money paid....would not recommend.

Spent $110 on four mimosas and a Cesar salad with dry chicken and lobster crumpet. The lobster crumpet was nothing but burnt potatoes and something that resembled two thick pancakes and an egg. First bad meal all week in Maine.
