Visited this summer. It is a great little stop for beer, wine, and snacks. The food is good too! I loved the vibe.
lived next door back when ownership was changing and moved before seeing how it’s changed. i was worried the shop would lose it’s charm, but that had been put to rest! great selection of stuff that’s in touch with the neighborhood, delicious and quick food, and the place is so much cleaner. customer service is top notch. wish i still lived nearby!
Sam just handed a free pizza to us in our car as we sat in traffic leaving the fireworks on the eastern prom. People were gathered outside dancing and having fun. What an awesome place, we will definitely be back. And the pizza was delicious!!!
Placed an order over an hour before close, cook heard the slip and started slamming stuff. Took an unreasonable amount of time. When he was done with the order the cook just set it on the corner and didn't tell the girl up front it was done. So I had to go up and ask for the order after I noticed it was sitting there.
The owner's absolutely awful to employees and even runs an illegal air bnb out of the upper floor. Do not support them until they pay their employees or get an owner who gives a hoot.
Super chicken parm sandwich! Juicy chicken, good sauce, friendly service. Love that there’s a spot to sit and eat too.
Nice staff good food
The staff at Hilltop Superette have turned the little neighborhood convenience store at the top of Munjoy Hill into a destination spot for incredible food, beverages, and a personable experience. For lunch today, I ordered their grilled chicken pesto sandwich and I have to say, I haven't had better anywhere else in this city. The bread was warm, soft, and fresh, the meat was whole chunks of white meat, and the sandwich was stuffed full with onions, tomatoes and pesto. I ordered a large and now have half the sandwich left over for lunch tomorrow as well. Basically two meals for $10. You can't get that deal anywhere else. They have food ready to go (pizza slices, chicken and burger baskets with fries), and tons of local sweets. And that's just the lunch selection. The breakfast offerings are equally impressive. They also have an incredible wine, spirits, and beer selection too.
I highly recommend Hilltop Superette for anyone on the go and wanting to grab some amazing food at a price that will not break the bank. Sam Patel and his crew truly have a gem at the top of Munjoy Hill.
Great food, amazing people, and a staple to the community!
Cant recommend this place enough!

I simply asked for mayo. There was no mayo. The bread was so dense that it borderline didn't seem fresh. Just dense bread, not soft, well also dripping with oil when I merely spoke plain English to the man (or woman.., not sure which gender it was, this being Portland, Maine) that I wanted mayonnaise on my Italian.
One of my favorite spots in Portland
Good vibes ,Good people definitely will be back
Last week I was running behind, it was lunchtime and I could hear my stomach rumbling. I didn’t have time to sit down in a restaurant or wait in any of those long lines in the old port. As I was driving from the eastern promenade I saw a car pull out of a space right in front of the Hilltop Superette. I pulled into the space went inside and was greatly surprised at how clean and the extensive selection of products. I ordered a Buffalo chicken sandwich from the friendly staff and looked around. I grabbed a few other items to accompany my sandwich, which I received in about 5 minutes freshly made on the grill. I had parked and left the store in less than 10 minutes. When I arrived at my destination and opened my sandwich, I was shocked to see how enormous and appealing it was. I then started eating it, and it was absolutely fantastic. All the items were very fresh and it was far superior to any sandwich that I would’ve ordered at a sitdown restaurant, for a fraction of the price. I highly suggest The Hilltop. Their menu is extensive and delicious and you could find anything to suit your taste.
Hilltop Superette is the best. One stop shop and it’s always buzzing with happy regulars. Love it here! I always get a breakfast sandwich on an English muffin or the breakfast burrito in the morning. As far as late night munchies go I love their frozen pizza and they usually have a good selection of beer or wine to go with it!
