ISF Trading is one of my must-stop places in Portland — honestly, it’s one of the reasons I come to Portland in the first place.
This is primarily a wholesale operation, but they also serve individual customers with retail options (and even shipping). Because of that setup, you can get exceptionally fresh, high-quality seafood — including items that are hard to find elsewhere — at prices that feel fair for the quality.
The uni is the standout. If you’re even slightly interested in uni, don’t miss it.
Here’s how it works: you order and purchase downstairs, and they allow customers to use their upstairs employee break area as a place to eat right away. It sounds unusual, but it’s easy and welcoming — there are always other customers doing the same thing, so it doesn’t feel awkward at all. They also have convenient, individual-ready packages up front, and the staff are friendly and happy to explain options or make recommendations.
No frills, all substance — an unforgettable seafood stop.
Every winter we drive two hours to buy saltwater packed uni and other fresh sashimi. After snowfall, the road can be very icy, and waking conditions may be slippery. Please be careful.
Everything on the table looked incredibly fresh and well presented. It was a true seafood feast. The uni was rich and vibrant, piled generously and looking creamy and sweet. The ebi shrimp were neatly laid out and pristine, clearly very fresh. The assorted sashimi had beautiful color and clean cuts, showing real quality fish without needing any gimmicks.
The visual highlight was the glazed eel (unagi). It was glossy, perfectly sliced, and coated in that deep savory sweet sauce that looks absolutely melt in your mouth. Simple soy sauce and wasabi on the side kept the focus where it belongs, on the seafood itself.
Overall, it was an impressive spread with high quality ingredients, generous portions, and a very authentic and fun experience. The kind of meal that makes you slow down, appreciate each bite, and already plan your next visit.
Really don't want to post any info on them and spread the great news and ruin it for us. If you need a treat (specifically great uni at ridiculous prices)
And once you concluded your sale downstairs they welcome you to their employee cafeteria upstairs to eat your purchases
Insanely delish. I had originally been worried I wouldn’t be able to find it but once you see the ISF Trading sign keep walking on the parking lot side past the truck docks. There are signs everywhere and everything is labeled. So easy, so incredible.
6 stars if google would let me! This place focuses on great quality fish for amazing price. The uni was FANTASTIC!!!!! Makes sense why it got so popular. Also enjoyed amaebi (sweet shrimp), unagi (eel), and assorted sashimi.
Their dining area is self serve as well as clean.
Total hidden gem
Everything is SO FRESH!!!!!!
Nobody can’t beat the price here!
Super nice staff assisting with everything
The best experience. Uni is so amazing, the cafeteria is so clean, with hot tea, and there is even Japanese toilet seat, very very impressed!
Super friendly staff, helping us selecting the best options. Also informed us we could go upstairs to sit down and enjoyed the food we just purchased. Great value for the stuff we purchased and it's SO worth it. Everything taste so yummy. LOVE and will visit again when we are in town next time.
Extremely fresh seafood choices. Buttery uni, fresh poppy salmon roe!

Best raw sashimi I've ever had!
Absolutely incredible quality from ISF Trading Company! The uni melted like butter, the shrimp snapped with sweetness, and the sashimi was so fresh it practically glowed. Even the sea cucumber was perfectly prepared: smooth, tender, and bursting with flavor. You can taste the care in every bite. I’ll definitely be ordering again soon!
My happy place, 10/10 no notes :,)
Down the harbor in an unassuming warehouse, you’ll find a fish market with the freshest prepared seafood platters. Order at the counter (downstairs) and take your treasures up to the break room upstairs. Highly recommend BYOB.
We got the unagi (9/10, just wish I could have broiled it!), sashimi (10/10), uni (10+/10). You can by nori sheets and rice to microwave to complete the meal.
Honestly the best value for money \ most fresh food you can get in Portland.
ご馳走様でした!
Delicious sashimi, some of the freshest I've had. They have a dining room upstairs to eat at.
Atchan san is the BEST
