This is my all time favorite seafood restaurant. No fuss, not pretentious, good service, and GREAT FOOD.

The lobster stew didn't taste much like lobster tasted like an add too much obey lots of lobster chunks but they more were like lobster gummies real chewy and didn't taste like lobster it was way overcooked and that $30 a bowl I got ripped off sorry

Oysters are delicious and fresh, however, the host is incredibly rude. We visited on 8/18 12:40 pm.

Another Portland staple. I enjoyed a lighter dinner of salad, oysters and steamers.

The oysters are fresh as them come, but you don’t pick the type. It’s catch of the day. You do get a better deal because of this, a bakers dozen for a decent price.

I’ve had steamers here a few times and love them.

This is a great place to eat outside, have a beer and eat some seafood.

Sad to leave a poor review but we did not have a great experience here. The location being on the water was wonderful but we waited for a long time and the service was slow. Our oysters were lukewarm and we ended up just staying for appetizers and having a meal elsewhere.

We went for dinner at J's after a Sunday, funday, at Peaks Island. We sat outside on the water. I would be regular at this restaurant, if I didn't live in Wisconsin. I loved it!! I had the best oysters I've ever had in my life!! They were Norumbega oysters,FYI. Yummy!!!! I could have ate these all day. Then came the clams, another yummy winner. The girls, all from the OOB,(summer homes), had other menu items, but I was to into my own yummy world to remember what they ate. Lol.
I can't wait to go back next year!! :)

I don’t ever post reviews but my experience at this restaurant was the worst. I went with my mother because of the food reviews and info about the menu that was available. We went at about 6:30pm on a Thursday so it was pretty busy and they gave us an estimate of a 20min wait which was fine.

We got seated at an outside table facing the water with a decent breeze in about 30min. Again, wait time was expected since it was at dinner time.

It took us 45 minutes to get our order taken, the waitress forgot our drinks (just waters) and it took another 15min for that. We got served our clam chowder and appetizer salad, but we’re not provided any utensils so we sat for another 20min to even eat our food. The clam chowder was okay and the salad was just a simple house salad that they served with a plastic packet of dressing.

We eventually got the small bucket of clams we ordered with butter and broth. The clams were ice cold and so gritty and sandy they were inedible. We got the seafood bouillabaisse which was also luke warm at best. The pasta was overcooked, and the seafood again was mediocre. Then we were served another cup of chowder by mistake. We told this to the waitress and she said it wouldn’t be reflected on the bill.

We also noticed that the table right next to us also got orders that were wrong with lots of missing items.

The side of corn on the cob was the best thing we ate. And that was undercooked and cold.

I’m so disappointed with my experience here. I saw all the good reviews and was looking forward to it. I would absolutely not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It is not worth the wait or money. I might as well have gotten some frozen premade seafood from Walmart - at least it would’ve been warm.

Classic spot with wood paneled walls. Definitely gets a little crowded but the wait wasn't bad. We had a little bit of everything. Definitely enjoyed the chowder and oysters.

We sat outside. The food was good. As soon as we paid the tab and the waitress got her tip, she rudely said if we didn't want anything else, they had a long wait list for tables. We got up and left without finishing our beers. Our beers were half full. All the waitress cared about was getting more tips! There are other places to go for better service, like Portland Lobster Co.
