We are summer residents and Local 188 is our favorite Portland restaurant. The food is innovative and excellent, the service friendly and prompt and the prices are reasonable for downtown. There is a free parking lot in the back too. It's as good or better than the best restaurants in the old port and easier to get to.

Don't miss this gem! We are seasonal residents who eat at Local 188 every week. The food is innovative and delicious, the service is prompt and appropriate to the order (we order lots of apps and ask that they be delivered separately) and the prices reasonable for Portland. There is free parking behind the restaurant and you don't have to deal with the hassle of the Old Port.

Hands down, the most amazing breakfast I’ve had in my life! We initially went into Hot Suppa but didn’t want to wait so we took a walk to Local 188. Got say immediately, our drinks and food came out so quickly. It was all to die for! Will be back again!

Okay Portland, you have so many choices of where to spend your dining dollars. Right in your face, right under your nose is a place to put at the top of your list. Local 188 has been operating for 25 yrs. The owner is a man who cares about what he is serving, and it comes from his heart. He has worked very hard to create such an experience. Hopefully his family (son) will take up the mantle. The food is very unique in composition and presentation. Everything our table for 3 ordered was a first of its kind for us all. It was all fantastic and I was with 2 of my favorite picky people. The food was great all the way through dessert. The drinks and wine were very good and that partly was due to new options rather than the ordinary. So, go for it and make that reservation and see for yourself what I'm preaching about. I wish I could go tonight, but I'm back in TN. As a matter of fact, tell the owner that crazy guy from TN sent you! dp

My husband and I had a wonderful experience at Local 188. We ordered house salads, deviled eggs, the jambon y manchego plate (ham and cheese plate), Pan Amb Tomaquet (tomato bread), and patatas bravas, which were a special. Everything was absolutely delicious and we both left feeling full and happy. It also all came out fairly quickly - we were stopping in before heading to a show at Thompson's Point and were in and out in under an hour. I'm very much looking forward to going back next time we're in Portland.

First time at Local 188 and would highly recommend. Started with a bottle of Montana Rioja, surprisingly good for the price, the deviled eggs, and the jamon y manchego. Both apps were strong, the latter was really excellent. Ordered teh gnocchi and the risotto, which had a somewhat similar flavor but very good. Finished with the cheesecake and some espresso and cappuccino. Service was excellent, price was reasonable enough.

Delicious brunch! French toast with blueberry jam and fresh maple syrup was strong. The vibe is very cool. Coffee was a little bitter.

This is our favorite restaurant in Portland. The food is outstanding, the service is very friendly and prompt, the portions ample and the place is fun. There is free parking in the back so no typical Portland hassles with your car.

We came on a Sunday at 10:30 for brunch and were seated right away. Our coffees and breakfast came out fast but I did have to wait about 5 minutes for my meal to come after everyone else had already gotten theirs. We all ordered poached eggs and some of the eggs were runny and some were cooked through. My friend who ordered the pork belly and eggs had her poached eggs cooked all the way through so didn’t have anything wet to help balance out the dryness of the English muffin and pork belly. We asked for a side of hollandaise because of this and we were told the kitchen could not offer this because they were “running out of food”. It wasn’t that they had run out of hollandaise, it was that they didn’t want to. It was surprising that they couldn’t just make more hollandaise if this was in fact the case. After that our server didn’t check back in with us to see if we needed anything and we ended up waiting about 20 minutes before having to interrupt someone walking by to ask for more water. Of course it’s busy and it’s Sunday but our expectations run fairly low when it comes to girls brunch. I’d definitely be interested in exploring their dinner options but likely won’t be coming back for breakfast.

Local 188 is celebrating 25 years. There are a lot of reasons why this restaurant has that type of staying power in a Portland market where restaurants come and go. The ambiance with the owner's own eclectic art collection on the wall celebrating 25 years. The manager checking on us, the wait staff, and the unbelievably dishes. Delicious bread, appetizers, and entrees. This place just moved to our favorites list.

Cocktails were sub par. Never had a totally flat Aperol spritz. And I think they didn't know what a Negroni was. Ham and cheese app was the best thing. Shrimp were way overcooked and there was no bread with the mussels. Our server was nice a efficient

We enjoy our periodic visits to Local 188. The food and drinks are very tasty. Nothing is inexpensive anymore but the prices seem reasonable for the quality. We enjoyed everything we had: the seared tuna, cauliflower, the chocolate torte. Our server was great and we appreciated that the chef came by at the end of the evening.
