Overated, Food was so so. Prices to high, 2 eggs, 2 crab cakes were ok. 2 potatoes were burnt and definitely nothing to brag about served with 1 English muffin for $26.00 Are you kidding me!!! Will not return.

We loved our experience here at the Causeway. We live in Maine and made a reservation 2 night before coming out. It was 4 of us, 2 adults and our teenage boys.
What impressed us was the care and attention to the food. We had Cesar salad, cup of bisque, and calamari fries to share. No one wanted to share though because it was delish!
My son had the duck and he was blow away, my husband had the lamb and again, hardly shared-however it must have been perfect because my oldest was picking the meat off the chop that he left behind. I had the filet which was perfectly cooked.
The view alone was perfect, the desserts made for an incredible night for us.
We are not the family who usually takes our kids to such a fancy place, however, we all loved it here and the kids declared we are coming back in the winter!

The food and drink at the Causeway is Flavorful and Delicious!! Probably the best braised short rib I’ve ever had! The roasted brussel sprouts and goat cheese polenta were also very appetizing! I would love to try everything on this menu! Maybe one day!!

Don’t sleep on the drink menu either, I had an amazing Old Fashioned one night and the house Marg was perfection!

Did I mention we had a perfect view of the sunset?!? Would highly recommend for anyone traveling by through Mid-coast Maine! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’ve been coming here for years and I love it . Stopped by for lunch today for some clam chowder and a cheeseburger. The chowder was great as usual however the cheeseburger was absolutely disgusting. It was completely black and chard on the outside and tasted like it was cooked on a dirty grill. I couldn’t even eat it. I told my server about it she said that’s too bad and gave me the bill . Didn’t do anything about it and didn’t even care. I honestly expected a little more integrity from this old time restaurant

We came here for a wedding dinner reception for 10 people and we’re disappointed overall for many reasons.

Food: The overall quality of food was just “ok” nothing exceptional, but disappointing overall for the price paid ($30-40 per plate) and quantity received. A couple guests who ordered ravioli noted the portion sizes were too small and tasted no different than store bought ravioli (nothing exceptional). The ravioli size portion is about 6-7 ravioli and one guest had to order a second meal. One guest said the halibut was not palatable. Another guest noted the steak frites with chimichurri sauce had only green sprinkles of it. The portions of her steak were unsatisfactorily cooked rare and when it got recooked, one slice of steak was missing. The guest noted the steak was just “meh”. The lobster Mac and cheese was disappointing in the sauce was very running, did not taste exceptional, contained few lobster pieces, and used large awkward pasta corkscrew shape. My dish, haddock with stuffed crab was very small (5 bites) and plain. It was nothing special for sauce, rice, and steamed asparagus. Fish portion is about half the size you would expect in a nice restraint with taste you would could get in a fast casual. I noticed a paucity of good comments that night, whereas the night before in a better and less pricy restaurant all the guests were raving about their food and remarked how that was a good choice. Let that sink in. Overall, we were disappointed for quality and quantity for the high price we had to pay on a special occasion.

Service: The waiter was good initially in asking multiple times if we needed a child high chair and asking guests for drinks/water. For 10 people, we only got 8 pieces of bread and majority of guests wanted more. The waiter was not cognizant of lack of bread and we had to ask waiter three times for more bread and each time we only got 4 pieces. Half of plates came, then we had to to wait about 4-5 minutes before the second half plates came. Some plates became lukewarm. A couple of guests noticed this and were dismayed. The worst part of service was after having a large dinner party of 10 and a $450 bill, the waiter goes to guest of honor paying for dinner with electronic card reader instead of a private paper receipt. The waiter then asks for a tip of 20% which the guest of honor did not voluntarily commit, as waiter pressed button for guest of honor in front on the other patrons “this is the amount you tip”. The guest felt disrespected and put in very awkward position as we had not fully discussed who was paying tip. Overall, the professionalism of service was lacking.

Atmosphere: The atmosphere is good, next to water, rustic and relaxed. Most of guests all remarked good comments about it and some wanted to enjoy the beautiful scenery outdoors.

The Causeway Restaurant is part of the Craignair Inn in Sprucehead / St. George, Maine. The restaurant looks over Clark Island, with coastal vistas being the primary view from the dining room. There's a wonderful outside deck to eat on, as well as games, fire pits, artwork for sale-- the place is absolutely charming and exactly what one pictures of a quaint seaside restaurant that's totally on point. Make sure that you have the "build your own bloody Mary" and maybe try it with the bacon, shrimp, and oyster additions. For my meal I had the eggs benedict with salmon, which was generally quite tasty. They take their time here and it's a wonderful experience! Will absolutely go back many times.

Kid-friendliness: Lots of games and a backyard for the kids. Also looks out over the bay.

Just moved to Maine and this gem is only 25 mins from our house! Excited to indulge in their menu for each season. Highly looking forward to Winter brunches! Jase was our server and he was just an absolute upstanding human. Amazing food and non alcoholic cocktail menu! I am personally very excited about that!

Service was good for table of 4 2 kids. We recieved 3 pieces of bread for some reason. we ordered the vegan soup which was sub par on flavor and temperature, sweet potato fries were good but a bit soft kids didn't go for them and salad to start had no issue. The entres were ravioli which were just fine, pasta for kids but the tiny vegan "lobster" roll was a solid disappointment using only 1 uncooked oyster mushroom cubed into 1" pieces on 5" roll for 18$ is a bit much, however the french fries on side were great overall chocolate cake dessert was a bit dry as well. any people who tend to eat healthier could pass on this place without any regrets in my opinion.

Located away from the bustle of Rockland crowds yet close enough for those staying in town The Causeway Restaurant is truly a seaside culinary treasure. Brush aside the stuffy airs reserved for world class restaurants, bring your friends and settle in for fantastic culinary experience in a casual atmosphere that rivals the food. We grazed the appetizers of calamari, cauliflower and bacon wrapped figs that would’ve had James Beard asking for seconds. The service was fantastic and even went out of their way to accommodate guests who preferred a quiet dinner over a boisterous section of the restaurant. Sadly we did not stay later to enjoy the Adirondack chairs and fire pit overlooking the ocean. Yet just another reason to come back again. Absolute Crown Jewel of the Maine Seacoast!!!
