This place has strayed far from what it used to be. Back when the original owners used to make the icecream it was phenomenal. Then the grandkids (I believe) took over it started going downhill fast. It was no longer homemade icecream and the taste wasn't the same. However I won't be going back for a total different reason. Over the summer my wife and I took our eight year old daughter and her friend there for some icecream after a long day at the beach. My daughter has a purse that she keeps a huge collection of business cards in. She loves collecting them and see no harm in that. Anyhow she grabbed a card that was sitting on the counter that was setup like a display. My wife and I both thought the same that she was grabbing a business card. It turned out that they were gift cards and the girl at the register quickly scolded her and told her to put it back. We told her what our daughter does and we both thought they were business cards. She proceeded to act like she was stealing and I even mentioned how can someone steal a empty gift card. It was crowded that evening so we let it go and got our icecream then went home. Only reason I'm writing this is because on the way home my daughter kept mentioning of how embarrassed she was and I kept telling her it's okay and that she didn't do anything wrong. I was going to write this a few months ago and as time went on I've forgotten about this. Yesterday while I was at a store with my daughter she was very hesitant about taking a business card and asked the cashier acting really scared. I asked her what was going on and she mentioned this incident at Dormans. That's when I realized that she was traumatized by that incident. Something so innocent and she really enjoyed collecting has made her think she did something wrong. Next time something like this happens I hope the cashier explains to the child what a gift card is instead of treating them like a thief.

Recently, many people have been complaining about the cards outside on the counter of the order window being business cards. The cards themselves say 'Dorman's Dairy Dream Gift Card' on each individual card and also the container they are in is labeled as 'Gift Cards'. We do like to keep as many gift cards as possible unless someone is buying one so there isn't any confusion with the customer when they return to use an empty gift card. If at some point you have come and had any confusion about the gift cards on the counter, I am sorry. We hope to see you again soon.

I have loved Dormans for many years nut allergies has kept me away for some years though.THIS YEAR they went above and beyond expectations. A friend asked if they could accommodate my allergies and DORMANS SAID YES!It is a great place for ice cream and it had to be soft serve but who cares. Teamwork of 2 people gloves and more and it was all no cross contamination.Use your own judgment obviously, but it is definitely my happy place this summer!

You can find Dorman's Dairy Dream at 189 New County Rd, Thomaston, ME 04861 - this is one of the main drags through town. There's a lot of parking to one side and a few picnic tables under trees at the back if you decide to eat on location - as with many ice cream establishments, you order at a window and wait while they put your order together (no seating inside). We were coming back from dinner nearby and wanted to finish things up a bit with ice cream (the dessert options where we had been didn't appeal to us). Dorman's had been recommended to us by our local friend. It was during the week post-tourist season and everything in Thomaston seems to close fairly early - I think we arrived around 8:45, 15 minutes before closing. We each ordered a Sunday - mine had a scoop of banana and a scoop of pistachio, with chocolate sauce, whip, walnuts and a cherry. The ice cream was very good - high milk fat really is the key here. Perfect dessert, if a bit more expensive than the local DQ - still well worth it.Window service was good with a very patient employee eager to answer all our d*** questions. If you're in the are it's a pleasant way to top off an evening of seafood dining.

Love this place! So glad it's still here even after all these years. Seamless transition from one local family to another. The ice cream choices are great. Quality place!

Great place, historical local establishment. Used to go there all the time in the 70s. Happy local Toyota dealership bought the place to keep it going.

Best ice cream in Maine! We went back twice during our visit. Everything tasted homemade and slow churned. We tried the pumpkin, ginger, mocha chip and Oreo flavors. The ginger was recommended to us by a friend and was a favorite.

After driving by Dorman's multiple times and ALWAYS seeing a line, we decided to stop in and see what the fuss was all about.Dorman's is a local ice cream shop that has been serving up handmade ice cream, soft serve, milkshakes, and other dairy delights. We hopped in the line and had to wait about 15ish minutes before making our way to the window where the friendly staff patiently answered our first-timer questions and endulged us while we sampled multiple of their decadent, creamy, and unique flavors. Highly recommend the popular pistachio and grapenut flavors! The grapenut in particular was an interesting flavor (kinda like cereal) that I've never seen or heard of before that was yummy. They'll definitely hit the spot on a hot summer day!
