“Absolutely amazing food! Everything came out at different times, which I know can seem stressful, but trust the process! Waiting an hour and ten minutes, but so glad I waiting. Couldn’t ask for better food all around. Our server Al was personable and professional, a total pro at his craft. Can’t wait to come back again!“

“We ate here after finding out one of our favorite places for Chinese food closed and we were pleasantly surprised to find this one not to far from where we use to go. It’s a small place that seems to do big business. It’s one of those places that you might just drive by and not notice but you would be missing out if you do. When we go to Portland and are in the mood for Chinese food this is where we will be going. Great food and super friendly folks. Definitely give them a chance I don’t believe you will regret it 😁.“

“Ordered for my first time yesterday. So thankful for another gluten free option in Portland. The orange chicken might be the best I’ve ever had (GF and non). Beef teriyaki also very good. Will be coming back!“

“Best Chinese food I've ever had. The place is always very clean, staff are wonderful, and the food comes fast. I love that all the food has its its own flavor. I usually don't like Chinese because I feel it all tastes the same, cooked in the same grease but this restaurant is totally different! I don't know what they use to cook the food in but it always tastes amazing and it's never too greasy. I love the fried shrimp with the coconut sauce! It's always perfectly crisp even with take out. The attention to detail and perfectly cooked food really makes this place stand out. So thankful this is a part of the Gorham community.“

“Ordered from door dash last minute before close. Food was made fast. It arrived and was still hot and glistening 20 minutes later. Food was rich in flavor. Chicken fingers were amazing, best I’ve ever had for Chinese. Crab Rangoons were excellent. Fried rice was delicious. I think I have a new favorite in the area“

“Grew up just a few miles away in New Gloucester and love their food! I always get the "special from the board" but my family has gotten a bunch of different items over the years and we love them all :)“

“Convenient drive-thru! Very basic selection, but good for a simple and quick bite to eat! Located in an intersection. The food was hot and ready. Crab Rangoon is decent, orange chicken was tangy, teriyaki was sweet and tender, lo mein was consistent. Nothing dry. Would try again.“

“Love panda express, not so much this location. Rachel is not very nice in my experience. The person running the register needs more training. I tried to use my rewards points for my purchase and she didnt know how. Still wanted me to pay $ . I have 20,000 rewards points and there should be no cash due. Someone helped her and still couldn't figure it out correctly claiming there was no button for each plate. She eventually figured it out by separating the order and told me next time to do separate transactions. I showed her on the app what it should be. Not a fan of this location. Staff could be better trained on register and friendliness.“

“If you’ve ever stepped into a classic New England Chinese takeout spot, you already know the vibe — and China Star fits right in. The interior is exactly what you’d expect: familiar, no-nonsense, and comforting in that “we’ve all been here before” kind of way. The only twist? A massive retractable crane game that looks like it could pick up more than just stuffed animals. It’s the kind of thing that makes you pause and say, “Well, that’s different.”
The woman at the register is genuinely friendly — not forced, just kind. You can almost see into the kitchen through the tiny pass-through window, which somehow makes it feel even more legit. No mystery about where your food is coming from — just a steady rhythm of takeout containers sliding through.
Every time I visit my son nearby, I order the same combo plate. Why mess with perfection? You get two chicken wings, two chicken fingers, two beef teriyaki, two chicken teriyaki, boneless spare ribs, and a portion of chicken lo mein that is definitely not a “side.” It’s practically a full order on its own. I easily get two meals out of it every time. That’s not a complaint — that’s a strategy.
We also ordered scallion pancakes. Now let’s be honest: most places use frozen ones. We all know it. But for whatever reason, these came out super crispy and not greasy at all. That alone deserves recognition. Crispy without the oil slick? That’s a win.
If you’re in Windham and you’re craving classic Chinese takeout — the dependable, satisfying, generous kind — this is your spot. No frills, no reinvention of the wheel. Just solid portions, crispy scallion pancakes, and a combo plate that feeds you twice.
Sometimes that’s exactly what you want.“
