Excellent service and exceptional quality of menu items!

One of the best meals you can get in Midcoast Maine. The service is spectacular, as is the food. Reasonable prices for the quality and care of the meal. Their special cocktails are also a highlight.

Really wanted to give five stars but there was a few disappointing items. For example. Initially our service was excellent but as it got later in the evening it became more challenging to get our waitress. The mushrooms toast and Caesar salad were excellent. However, after those excellent dishes the pork schnitzel was disappointing. The pork was not tender, and breading was bland. There just was not much favor. And if visiting during the winter months you might want to wear a sweater. We plan to go there again and maybe the main disk will be better next time.

This place has been on our list to try for a while, and tonight, we finally made it happen. We both ordered bubbles by the glass which were wonderful. The calamari was amazing and we loved that it wasn't deep fried with breading. I got, fresh off a trip to Austria, the Pork Schnitzel, which I give 5/5. I especially loved the Spaetzle side, though I wished there was more of it. My friend got the Duck and this was really our only complaint. The whole dish, which included apple, shallots (caramelized?), and a type of sweet potato, was way too sweet. Servers and atmosphere were great. Overall - 4.5/5.

Amazing food and service! We had a large group and did not call ahead.. Corinna did such a wonderful job with the wine list and giving advice for pairing. The food was outstanding! Truly cannot say enough good about this restaurant.

Let me put the cart before the horse and tell you this was one of the best, if not the best, experiences I have had at a restaurant. Corrinna was lovely. She took time to explain to this uninitiated wine consumer the differences between wines, glasses, and tasting, as well as pairing with foods. Speaking of food, this was also splendid. We started with oysters, which was a first, calamari, pork belly, arancini, and focaccia that melted in your mouth. My main course was the Swordfish with sweet potato puree, fingerling, and swordfish "bacon" jam. This is a silent gem that I selfishly stays quiet for my purposes, but Back River Bistro needs to be visited by anyone who loves a small curated dining experience. Much success to Matt & Corrinna. It is much deserved.

Carina is the best owner/server ever! She knows her wine and goes into detail about the info. This place is hands down the best gem in the area! We went for my sibling Christmas dinner and everything was 5 stars! Matt is a talented cook and everything was made to perfection! We will be back 100%!

Best gourmet restaurant in Wiscasset hands down. Granted not a lot of competition around but just terrific.

Went to a wedding dinner here. The restaurant closed for the private event and provided such wonderful service, hospitality, and food! The cocktail menu was very unique and inventive and the food was absolutely delicious.

Party of 5, completely blown away by the courses we ate. No time for pictures. We ordered the oysters, Caesar salad, tuna crudo, squash fritters, and for main dishes, sirloin, schnitzel, monkfish, and Duck. Megan was our server and she was so sweet but everyone here was so pleasant and accommodating. Atmosphere is awesome. Next time we’re up in Maine, we definitely will come here again without a doubt. My only suggestion is the order the duck medium to medium well because slightly raw was strange. They had actually candle light which added to the atmosphere. The bathroom had individual hand rolled towels and I thought that was such a nice touch.
