Whenever I'm in Ann Arbor I make it a point to stop here. It's a great spot for good drinks and food. I love the heart of palm salad as the only other comparable place I've had it is when I'm in Brazil. Fish tacos are also very good. Atmosphere is great, and staff and other patrons are friendly. The only challenge I've ever experienced here is since they expanded they don't always have enough staff to keep up with the demand. However, I still very much enjoy coming here and will continue to explore the menu.

Very noisy on Friday night. We had to shout across a small table for 2 to communicate over some rather inebreated customers. But, our waitress was effecient,warm, and took great care of us. The Sushi we chose, was beautifully prepared and not over seasoned. The Salmon was so fresh, I think it was still swimming hours before the chef prepared our dish and it was absolutley The Best tasting salmon I have ever eaten in all the 50 plus years of dining out and fishing the big lakes to catch my own to cook. If you dont mind a crowded noisy place to hang out in downtown Ann Arbor and love fresh sushi and exquisite seafood , Black Pearl is the perfect match.

Not even close...Oct 10 2025, the food is not what it used to be, server was awesome, but the food was not even mediocre, too bad, it used to be 1 of my favs, wont be back, to many other good options....not the 1st time it was sub par..

Great experience. Great food. Great drinks. Newly renovated to accommodate more seating and a bigger bar area. The Honey Miso Steak Tips were incredible, as was the Seafood Penne. Black Orchid Cocktail to pair was a great choice as well.

My husband and I went on a date night for my birthday. I started off with a mocktail and he with a cocktail which were both good. For an appetizer we had the crab dip which was delicious. For the main dish my husband had the fish tacos which he thoroughly enjoyed. I had the scallops, which unfortunately were not great-the scallops themselves didn’t have much flavor and the orzo was lumped together and under cooked. For dessert (free for my birthday) we had the crispy coconut mochi tart, which I would eat many times over again. Non-food related, the single stall bathroom was out of toilet paper. I would give it another chance and just not order the scallops again.

This place is amazing! The ambiance, food, and drinks are always on-point. Hassan is the BEST! If you get him behind the bar, you’re in luck. Have always had a great time and met lots of people. Try the steak tips they are phenomenal

Scallops were a joke. Burnt bacon sprinkled over scallops served on a 1/4 cup of rice. Dill weed sprinkled on top. Absolutely not worth $38. Coconut shrimp appetizers had no coconut. Looked like 4 frozen shrimp deep fried. Served with a helping of microwaved honey. Seriously!!! Scallops shown in picture.

The food was so so. Got the cut of the week. Cooked correctly but the meat quality was mediocre at best. Reminded me of outback.
