The angel wings were so good, but I bought two donuts and the smell of old grease was horrible. I ended up taking a taste and it was not edible. I had to throw out both.

Absolutely terrible service. The lady there is extremely rude and forgets the customer does have to come to her little store. A young man was helping me initially, I asked How much the bag of bread on the shelf by the window was he said it’s half off since it’s from yesterday so it’s 1.98. I said That’s fine I’ll take it. So he took it off the shelf and placed it in a bag. The lady comes out and says she’ll take over. I tell her hello she ignores me and says what else do you want. No problem I thought. I order A donut and watch her ring up the bread for 3.99. I tell Her it’s not the new one it’s from yesterday’s shelf. She rolled her eyes at me and said no it’s not. I said Ma’am the young man gave it to me from the shelf by the window and told me it’s half off. She said no it’s from the glass. Proceeded to tell me I took It from behind her shelf. I said Ok no problem I still Want bread but I’m picking a different bag. She literally rolled her eyes and with the driest tone said why they’re all the same. I said If I’m paying for a fresh bag might as well actually take a fresh bag. She literally looked at me with so much disgust. Grabbed another bag, SLAMMED IT into the to go bag and just put out her hand for my card. I had my daughter with me and she wanted the donut so I purchased It but honest to god, I’ll never be stepping foot in there again. Disgusting behavior from who I assume Is the owner. I never mind spending money on small businesses especially when it comes to food. Love to support my community. I also never make good reviews and if I do, its positive. Mind you, in real time she was far more rude then I’m able to write in this little review.

LOVE Monroe Bakery — it has been a long time gem and staple in the neighborhood.
They have everything you could ever want. Traditional cookies, donuts, danishes, and amazing pastries and cupcakes etc.
Can’t wait til I’m in town one of these days when they’re open (I’m always craving on a Sunday) 🍪

Not sure about all the complaints about old goods as I have never purchased anything that was old or stale. Just bought a cake on a Saturday and it was very fresh.
So, I started patronizing Monroe Bakery when my daughter turned 1years old, she is 22, now. I would order all my special occasion cakes here and stop by at twice a month if not more to get a cake for my husband who is a cake addiction. I, even had my mother and granny from downtown Detroit patronizing this bakery for their cakes, too…that’s a 45 minute drive for them. However, since about 2016, this bakery has went down in quality. I always ask if the cakes are fresh and always get, “they made them this morning or the same day only to get it home two hours away and find out that the icing is stale and the cake is hard and dry. After experiencing this twice from this bakery I was heartbroken my favorite bakery is garbage, now. I refuse to go and shop there anymore. However, my husband decided to surprise me last night with a yellow cake with white icing from Monroe Bakery. I asked him where did he get the cake from and he said Monroe bakery. I said to him why would you buy a cake from Monroe bakery when their default lie is that the cakes were made that morning or the same day only, always. I was so frustrated with my husband because I told him on several occasions never buy cakes from Monroe Bakery and he thought that maybe they changed, nope…still, garbage. So, disappointing. Here it is 2025 and Monroe Bakery is still telling the same lie about these cakes…you guys are a rip-off. Try providing quality cakes again so you don’t have rip-off and lie to customers!

I'm really REALLY glad I found this place on Google Maps for selecting a cake for a coworker's retirement lunch. The lady here was very enthusiastic in helping me select from their multiple available options, and other decorating ideas. Would love to go back here and try their other food items besides cake.
