Iv been too this one 3 times, the one that was in royal oak and the one in Atlanta ,usually this location is good, but today ,was trash, horrible service ,the food wasn’t that good, every employee was on their phones I stead working, food took 30 minutes ,and their wasn’t anyone is the restaurant eating ,so there was no excuse for the bad service ,then we got over charged while checking out ,funny how when the guy manager has the day off ,people be slacking ,prolly won’t be coming back, the royal oak location and Westland location are both closed for lack of employees wanting to work ,wonder how long the Detroit location will be open,I like the guy manager he actually gets things done ,but the way the service was here,I’m not surprised if they have to close up shop ,very disappointed

Absolutely fantastic first visit! We ordered the half chicken with beans and mac and cheese, and every bite exceeded our expectations. The chicken was incredibly flavorful, juicy, and had just the right amount of spice—it was both hearty and satisfying. The sides were delicious, especially the mac and cheese, which was creamy and comforting. What truly elevated our experience was the outstanding service—our server was friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. We enjoyed the meal so much that we ordered extra to take back with us to Toronto. Highly recommend, and we’ll definitely be returning!

Takara and staff were amazing!

The chicken was gonna be hard to beat the amazing service!

The product and experience were both great old-school recipe that reminds you of what fried chicken is supposed to be.

Whoever trained the staff at this location has done an amazing job. I’ll definitely be back. Thank you for a great food and experience.

The food was amazing, and the service was great, everyone was kind and welcoming. The music was nice, and wasn't obnoxiously loud like a lot of restaurants.

The worst Guss’s and I’ve been to all of them. This was supposed to be 2 piece white with potato salad and beans. This is Detroit though. I should have known. Live and learn.

My coworkers and I stopped here for a quick lunch and enjoyed our time there. The highlight was the service from the Chef Gordon. He was very pleasant and welcoming. The fried green tomatoes were the bomb and I would order again. The rest of the food was average, I had two wings and a thigh with baked beans and macaroni. The chicken is a little spicy but I don't mind spice. I wouldn't mind visiting again...

I was in Gus 3/19/25 and ordered 3 wings, baked beans and okra. The bread didn't appear fresh but I ate several small pieces. I experienced food poisoning and threw up all night! Never again!

I’m giving Gus one star for its chicken. It was hot and tasty. However, my two piece white-the wing seemed baked. My dinning partner’s potato salad was used as a dip. The greens (I’d bet my money)were frozen. Because of them being so finely chopped. The Mac&chz-possibly docked-up boxed mac&chz.
Being served soul cuisine on paper and plastic is a bomber for me.
Service was confusing. The chef and waitress were not communicating with each other. The place wasn’t bad. Makes me think Gus hasn’t been there long. Will I return, only if I have to.
