One of the best meals of my life. Everything we ate was the best version of that thing I've had. Specifically, we had an incredible miso soup, wagyu yakitori, a tuna tartare & truffle maki, and nigiri that would just perfectly balanced flavor bombs. Fantastic service, amazing execution. And the Jasmine Tea is incredible. This will be one of our go-to spots for special occasions in the area.

Sushi and udon were very underwhelming and honestly kind of gross. Lots of hype but did not live up to it at all.

Everything about this experience was awesome, the service, the food, the ambiance, you name it.
Hiroki-San is in the basement of the book tower, which gives it a cosy but still upscale vibe. The service recommends ordering a bunch of small plates to share, which is what we did.
Highlights of those: gyutan (beef tongue), miso black cod, katsu curry, tako-age
Everything was very good though, and I'll be back to try more of it!

KG was phenomenal. Came here with a friend for dinner and he greeted us in Japanese every time he came up to us and you could feel his passion for his craft. The recommendations he gave us for the food we ate were incredibly described as well. He simply knows everything about the menu. The food was delicious and the sake was awesome as well. Highly recommend for a fun date night and definitely get KG as your waiter!

Truly incredible food, drinks, and service! I would come back for the wagyu skewers and fried chicken alone. I got a free fluffy cheesecake for my birthday dessert which was good but I think could’ve used more of the fruit topping. My only complaint is that the stools for sitting at the kitchen bar don’t have a back so it gets uncomfortable to sit after a while. Overall, we had a great experience!

An unforgettable experience at Hiroki San! The food was absolutely delicious—each dish was memorable and beautifully crafted. Our server, Clare, brought warmth and cheer to our meal, and the sous chef even took us next door to Aladdin Sane for a cocktail, making our night even more special. From start to finish, an A+ dining experience! We cannot wait to return. Pricey but well worth it.

The location is great. Sushi was excellent. Service was great. Sushi bar might be a little squished but not a big deal. Get a table if you want the room. Can't wait to go again.

Modern Japanese restaurant done very well. Food was exceptional...but considering the price, the bill came with a charge of $3 for ice in each drink....odd note to end a nice meal on.

Amazing service and ambience! Food flavors were not blended as well as I'd expect for the prices and plating. Worth trying out once though. The octopus usuzukrui was a delightful balance of flavors and the plating of the food were intricate and well done!

Truly spectacular and the service is truly top tier! Only issue, the tables are super close together killing the intimate vibe with your guests and the seats are tiny. Not comfortable but still worth a visit. I recommend the Loin (get 2), beef tongue, fried chicken, all the sushi is yummy, and that chichen curry rice. Oh but the cocktails are a different experience.... it is an art!

Came to Hiroki-San for our anniversary dinner, excited to try to find some good Japanese since the loss of our favorite local place (Antihero). The atmosphere was amazing and reminded us of our travels to Japan, but sadly, that’s where the similarities ended.
For 200+ dollars, we left with a shrug. Everything was just ok, with the exception of the maguro maki (the quality of the tuna was exceptional). The ramen was a huge miss, with nearly flavorless chicken. We tried the sunomono, the curry katsu, the buns, and the pickled vegetables in addition to two sushi rolls, and while nothing was necessarily wrong, it all lacked depth. The service was unfortunately nothing special, with long wait times for refills on drinks and water. Sad to say, but we won’t be back.

**Hiroki-San – A Delightful Dining Experience with Minor Hiccups**
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ (4.5 stars)
I recently visited Hiroki-San in Detroit to celebrate a birthday, and overall, it was a fantastic experience. The ambiance of the restaurant is top-notch – elegant, intimate, and authentically Japanese, making it perfect for a special occasion. The location is convenient and easy to find, adding to the restaurant's appeal.
The food was undeniably the highlight of the evening. Every dish we ordered was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. From the Chu-Toro sashimi to the meticulously prepared rolls, the quality of ingredients and attention to detail truly shine. I also ordered the Mars Iwai 45, a whiskey that paired well with the meal. If you're a fan of Japanese cuisine, Hiroki-San will not disappoint!
However, I did encounter two minor issues that kept this from being a 5-star experience. First, the price-to-value ratio felt a bit steep. While the food is excellent, the pricing can be a bit higher than expected, especially considering the portion sizes. It’s worth it for a special occasion, but something to keep in mind.
Secondly, the service was a bit off. While I appreciate a relaxed atmosphere, our server’s overly casual and somewhat condescending tone took away from the overall experience. When I ordered the Mars Iwai 45, she clarified that it was whiskey – despite it being clearly listed under the whiskey section. The same happened when I ordered Chu-Toro sashimi, as she felt the need to explain that it was raw fish, even though I had clearly ordered sashimi and not a roll. I understand that not everyone is familiar with these terms, but the explanations felt unnecessary in this context.
Despite these small drawbacks, Hiroki-San is an excellent choice for anyone seeking high-quality Japanese cuisine in Detroit. I’d happily return for another special occasion, as the ambiance and food truly make it worth the visit!
