Matys does is a very busy mostly takeout business. They do have tables and when we were there a few were eating in. As it was our first time we had chicken, lamb, couscous, red snapper, jollof rice and peanut soup. The red snapper is a favorite though ours was a little over cooked but I'd order it again. The lamb was grilled in pieces and me not a lamb lover liked it though it was a bit chewy. The jollof rice and chicken were fought over at our table so they liked those. This is a casual takeout place so not really for date night but I'll be back to try my faves

Maty's is a hidden gem. The half chicken yassa and the deebee with jollof rice are my favorites, and I love the juice as well. The service is always super nice, and the portions and prices are really good. The flavor is top tier and I'll always enjoy coming here. The only downside is if you come later during dinner, they may be out of a lot of menu items. However, everything I've tried on the menu has been great, so that's not really an issue because I get to try something new that's also good.

The maafe (peanut stew) with chicken was incredibly good. We ordered some plantains and were told they were out, and then a few minutes later the young guy surprised with an order of plantains on the house. Fantastic service!

First time ordering from Maty's. Call in order. They needed 20 minutes to get my order made. Took me fifteen minutes to get there. I ordered the grilled snapper with jolof rice. Excited always to try new west African restaurants. Only to go in and they not have my order. But tried to sell me someone else's order of chicken. I kindly declined as I wanted my order. He explained my order would be another 20 minutes. I kindly walked out, but definitely with no food. The point is if you order make sure to confirm they will have your food if you're driving over 15 minutes.

Authentic African Senegalese food in the heart of Detroit. Their FISH (red snapper) is to DIE FOR, literally some of the best fish I have had in the world bc of the spices they use. The onion sauce that comes with side of entree is also phenomenal and will make any food taste amazing. Plus it’s all halal!

The restaurant itself is a little rough, and I asked if they had the pork chops, they said they did, but they didn't. After that discovery, they offered an alternate, cheaper dish as compensation... Luckily, that lamb Beebee is amazing... So I'm not too upset about the five bucks. It's just money right?

Food was pretty good only down fall is I wish I had more. We tried the food buffet but quantity they gave was a bite size for meats and a bunch of rice. You'll get more if you just order instead of doing the buffet.Service was great and welcoming. Ambiance felt very welcoming clean and comfortable. Like a mom and pops shop.
