Mike’s Famous Ham Place made the New York Times list of “The 26 Best Dishes We Ate Across the U.S. in 2024”. Definitely deserving of all the attention!! I luv ham, but usually it’s too salty for my taste and for my kidneys. But we had breakfast there today and the ham was absolutely perfect!! Super tasty, not salty, huge portions! - hand-carved from a whole ham right in front of you. Perfect eggs and good coffee, too. It’s a small place, as in like very small – just a row of swivel chairs set against your typical vintage (but clean and well-maintained) diner counter. Friendly folks behind the counter and friendly customers, too! Check it out sometime. And btw they sell ham bones for soup: $5 a bag! PS they only take cash. I'm definitely going back.

I will be honest, I didn't get to try the food as it was cash only. However, the man running the place was willing to just let me have the sandwich and pay him back layer and if I hadn't been from out of town and unsure when I'd ever be able to, I would have taken him up on the offer! Great service and a place I look forward to getting to try sometime in the near future!

So on my last trip to Detroit from southern Missouri, I set my maps to go directly to this place. I don't care where you are, this ham is worth the drive. Ham & eggs Ham sandwich Split pea w/Ham Ham & beans I can't say enough about this tiny mom & pop restaurant.
God that's good Ham They also sell whole hams & bones.
This place is great! The people that are running it are very friendly and kind; they even let us try a taste of the pea soup for free when my sister mentioned wanting to come back and try it when it’s better “soup weather” lol. The large ham sandwiches are enormous and the pickles are deliciously crunchy. Definitely come here if you like ham, you won’t be disappointed!
