Inventive and interesting menu. The food was delicious, the service was amiable and knowledgeable. The restaurant is extremely loud so it's hard to hear but other than that a top tier experience
Selden NEVER fails to amaze my wife and I. Even if you are hesitant about the menu,,,,try something you're not sure you'd like. Every plate surpasses the previous one. The cocktails alone are worth the hour drink and the staff is professional yet personable. They know what we like and will make suggestions on what they know about us. If you haven't been here, you have no idea what you're missing.
The menu was diverse. The food was excellent, well-prepared, flavorful, and each item arrived in an appropriate timing. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and offered great menu suggestions.
The service and meal quality was a 10. Overall, the dining experience provided very good value and will be a factor in returning for another enjoyable experience.
This was a lovely experience. Our waitperson, Chandler, was one of the best I've encountered. She took the time to explain everything in detail. She was personable and we never felt rushed or ignored. Perfect timing. The food was delicious, and the wine selection was very nice. My husband's birthday was celebrated in grand style. They even provided a delectable dark chocolate gelato with a candle and birthday message making it a very personal and memorable experience for him. The small plate approach was perfect for the four of us as we were able to taste eight very different selections that were uniquely prepared. My favorites were the gnocchi and the grilled cabbage. We will definitely be back!
We were a first timers. We have a received a gift certificate for $200. My husband and I were very excited to try this place out, since the people who gave us the gift certificate were raving about it... unfortunately we didn't have the same experience. First off, the food is mediocre. Seems to me they try to make cheap food look good... the steak tartare was very salty and the meat had fat veins in it( unacceptable!) . We also ordered the mushrooms and cauliflower dishes ( an appetizer the waitress said was family style, but the amount was for one person.. the mushrooms were tasteless. Cauliflower was good. My swordfish was ok. The veggies that came with it.. i don't know what that was? Was it even cooked??' My husband ordered the bratwurst dishe. There were like 3 little pieces of sausage. We left the restaurant hungry and went to the London Chop House to eat more. I have to say the drinks were pretty good. Also, the music was waaay too loud. We couldn't talk. Sorry, but we are not coming back. So sad places like this scam people because of location. We spent $205 plus 25% tip . I used to be a waitress, so we definitely didn't want the service to be affected, however our waitress was not that attentive.' On a final note, this place should change their name to Seldom Standards.
Excellent dinner. We were celebrating a birthday. Liana was fantastic. She timed the food perfectly, made amazing recommendations, and accommodated our allergy diner. The vegetable carpaccio was a table favorite, as was the grilled ribeye and pan roasted chicken. This had been on our bucket list for awhile, and we'll definitely return.
Loved our meal. Liked our server. Only thing I was disappointed about was putting our party of 5 at a 4 top table. Too much food space needs with sharing. We were definitely crowded. The person sitting at the end of the table is never pleased. Also, sitting by the door was chilly. I made my reservation on the day I was allowed to so I guess I expected better seating.
We had an excellent meal and experience at Selden Standard. It was a birthday celebration and they delivered! The menu was varied and the 5 items we ordered were timed well, seasoned nicely, and left us feeling satisfied while not overly full. Our server was professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. The restaurant came highly recommended and did not disappoint. We also enjoyed the fact that it was not overly loud as some restaurants tend to be. If we find ourselves back in Detroit we would not hesitate to have another meal at Selden Standard.
The food is fresh, unique and delicious. The approach to the menu -- with shareable dishes -- made it even more fun and engaging with our group -- deciding on and then trying over a dozen different dishes together. Our server, Chandler, was a great guide! We try a different Detroit restaurant each time we go to the theater, and this was one of our favorites!

This is our favorite restaurant in town, maybe our favorite of all time. Every dish is incredible and we always leave happy, can't recommend it enough.
Leah was perfect and Everything tasted spectacular. Started with the Kale salad which was so fresh and flavorful. The cheese on top was generous and a perfect pairing for the salad. Leah recommended the pasta with sweet potato and sage brown butter. It was the best thing I've ever eaten. I always get the pan roasted chicken when I go and it's never a let down. I was so full but I spared some room for the chocolate cake and a sherry and so glad I did. Each wine I had tasted unlike anything I'd ever had before and I'm kicking myself for not buying a bottle go. Bill was about 155 which I find to be extremely reasonable considering how much food and drink I had over a course of 2 hours. Well worth it and always a treat to go to Selden.
Such a pleasant experience and Inspiring dishes. The food was amazing and delightful and complex. Only thing that would have been better is if there was some sort of bread to sop of the delightful end of the dishes. And $200+ throw in the bday dessert. Not expected but would have been nice for the pricepoint. Left a slight diminishing impression on the experience.
Sweet corn pasta was incredible!!!!! Other favorites were the house made sourdough and butter, roasted mushrooms, whole chicken. The chicken was so tender. Short cocktail menu, but decently lengthy wine and beer list. Bar is first come, first serve. Nice atmosphere!!

We had an excellent dinner at Selden Standard on our weekend getaway to Detroit. The food was excellent, creative, and original, the drinks exceptional, and the service excellent. A fun, busy atmosphere. Really enjoyed our dinner there and are eager to come back to Detroit to try again.
