For years an Opening Day tradition and downtown destination for my wife and I. Unfortunately, the appearance has been upgraded, but the food is now disappointing. Gone is the tasty bread (they still serve pita) that went perfectly with the Saganaki. The Loukaniko was burnt and their very tasty red sauce was bland (missing clove and other ingredients). Gone too are the plastic red baskets, which were replaced plates and wood blocks. The server was pleasant, but made several mistakes on our order. Add in some warm Greek beer to the mix. Plus, look out they add a 20% gratuity to the tab and include an additional tip line for confusion. So to sum it up, gone is the great Greek dive with delicious food and enter a cookie cutter Greek restaurant with nothing special to bring us back...

An overpriced coney with a good location and nicer decor. I'm not sure the food was as good as a coney though

Great vibe and location. Even better food---ordered the saganaki (flaming cheese!), beet arugula salad, and chicken souvlaki sandwich, which were all delicious! We were surprised at the good portions, especially for the price. I'd recommend going here with friends or a casual date.

It has been years since I had been here. They have renovated and modernized the dining area, but the food is still amazing! Can't wait to come back!

Best gyro in my opinion. I have been eating at this restaurant for 29 years.

We ordered a couple of gyros, and the meat had a foul oder, and did not taste good.

I have had many gyros in my life. The best were the very first when I was first exposed to the flavor of that delicious dish, and the other best was Golden Fleece. It tastes like the quintessential gyros. And the staff pronounces gyros correctly, so you KNOW it's legit!

Golden Fleece just has an authentic, no nonsense gyros and beer joint thing going on. Always on my must stop list.

We ate at the Golden fleece this past weekend. But last time I was there I was a lot younger. I was visiting Detroit and this was very nostalgic for me. The restaurant is really nice and the delicatessen and pastry shop attached to it is awesome. The service was fantastic and so was the food. We met Spiro The owner, who is a very nice man. I recommend going to Greektown if you’re in Detroit and eating at the Golden Fleece. The salads, the appetizers, the main course, and the desserts were all fantastic. Also, some of the best tasting coffee I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to visit it again.

My waiter was excellent and recommended the lamb shank. Not something I would normally order, but he was right on and it was absolutely delicious.

If you're looking for a great Greek restaurant in downtown Detroit look no further than the Golden Fleece. My colleagues and I dined at this restaurant on a busy Saturday night and received top-notch service by our waiter. He was friendly and professional, and provided excellent recommendations on both food and wine. We ordered an assortment of appetizers - the Greek sausage, spanakopita, different types hummus and, of course, Saganaki - if only to be entertained by the flames and the shouts of "Opa!" Our table went through 6 bottles of a Greek Rosé that was, obviously, delicious. I ordered the moussaka for my entree, which was fantastic and perfectly prepared. My colleagues ordered the lamb - they were impressed and were talking about it the next day. The restaurant is cute, clean with some nice touches to make it feel cozy. It was smaller than we expected and it can get pretty loud at times - but, it was a Saturday night, so that's to be expected. I'll definitely be returning and would give it a positive recommendation.

This is a mainstay in Detroit’s Greektown and I’ve been goin here since I’ve been a kid. The atmosphere has changed a lot over the years (for the better), just as Greektown has, but the food hasn’t. It’s always been the best on the block and that’s the reason they’ve been able to survive the years.Come here to get anything traditional. Always get the saganaki, loukaniko and try to get their gyro (in some way) whether it’s the sandwich or the platter. So many good memories here! After a Tigers game, with my friends in college, etc etc. I hope they stick around forever!

I got the Greek village pita wrap which is vegetarian and it was absolutely delicious....I am already craving to go back for another one. I saw the lamb gyro others ordered and it looks fantastic!!!! Oh I think it is their specialty here. The beautiful waitress there gave me a few pieces of lamb gyro for me and my husband to try and it was sooo tasty. We also got the beef moussaka and my husband said it was just as good as Pegusus where we usually eat.I got spinach pie to go and haven't tried it yet but the portion was smaller than Pegusus where we usually get it.I was hoping to get a vegetarian platter comparable to Pegusus here but they don't offer one...sigh ?. The owners at The Golden Fleece must not be aware how many people want and need to eat vegan...please consider adding a vegetarian platter ?I just ate the spinach pie and it is a toss up as to who has the best Spinach pie between Pegus or Golden Fleece?I'm very happy to be reminded... when in Greek Town Golden Fleece is a good Greek restaurant to eat at.As a result of Getting a Village Greek Pita wrap here I now plan to get this every time I am in Greek Town for a carry out....oh yum...Thanks so much for continuing to operate this Greek Restaurant....Vegetarian options: I got green beans side order, spinach pie, and village Greek PitaThey also have a Greek salad ?Parking: Since we were getting a carryout we parked in a free 15 minute zone right on the same side of the street and were fine. You could also park in back of the big church for $15.00 and also at the nearby casino parking garage
