Today was our first time visiting this little gem in Elk Rapids, and we couldn’t have been more pleased with our experience! From the friendly staff to the absolutely yummy food — this place is 5+ stars! Our server was also the owner, and she was so fun to talk to! Even with a busy restaurant, she made time to chat with us and give us the lowdown on other good places to eat.

We had the breakfast Sammy and smashburger and would totally get those two dishes again! For those who like kale, their kale salad and homemade vinaigrette was SO GOOD! 😋 We also ordered a macaroon and brown butter cookie to go (P.S. We scarfed down the cookie before our check arrived 😂).

We are looking forward to visiting this place again and again and again!

One of the best experiences I have ever had at a breakfast spot. Truly incredible staff and food that blew my mind. I hope for nothing but great success for this place and I hope anyone reading this runs to get a table here.

A perfect up north stable. We came to Elk Rapids for a weekend away. Kristin greeted us at the door and even remembered us when we came back a second time. I got the Ames special both times we came the eggs were perfectly cooked and the kale salad is a must! I loved that used a bunch of random coffee cups, we grabbed two cookies to go and the were the perfect dessert. A little bit of a wait but worth it! We will definitely visit again when we're in town

Our server, Kat, was very friendly and welcoming as was the entire staff. The food was fantastic! My wife had the special sandwich of the day, I had the Smoked Salmon Benedict, and we shared the Banana Bread French Toast. Everything was spot on! We’ll certainly return on our next visit to Northern MI!

Dined at The Red Spire for breakfast. Food was amazing, as well as the service! I had the Crab Benedict and the wife went with the Salmon Benedict. I loved both of them!

If I could give this place a 10 I would. I eat out a lot and I’ve never had such great food. I ordered the “smashed” burger and it was the best burger I’ve ever had. It’s got to get added to the best burger contest in Michigan. The service was equally great. Kat was our server and she went out of her way to make our lunch perfect. So sweet and very knowledgeable about the menu and cooking process. Everything is fresh and homemade. I topped lunch off with a fresh coconut macaroon. They had many delicious desserts to choose from. Try this place, you won’t be sorry.🥰😋

The Smash Burgers (created by Ames St Cafe when they grill at Ethonology on Thursday nights) are juicy and so full of flavor! Hands down... best Burger I've ever had. The smiles and kindness of these hard working folks is heart-felt. Their passion is to serve quality food made from the best ingredients. You know how good it is when you close your eyes and can remember the taste! Hats off and high 5's for Ame's St Cafe from Tammy's sister!

Eggs ordered med well got runny … side meat and potatoes greasy. Toast was the wider slice sourdough - was absolutely tasteless. We seemed to have different staff visit the table to wait on us. And i do agree - breakfast was more on expensive side for the quality of food. The first waitress was very friendly & courteous. I usually come here when visiting Elk Rapids - but discovered the previous and much better visits (food and staff and hospitality) happened when this establishment was run my owners under the name - The Local Restaurant - which is now called Ames. I won’t be back. I looked at other reviews, it seems owner/management were quite rude to previous visitor(s). Some establishments are like that when visitors come to tourist spots. Oh well, onward to other places. Is northwest Michigan getting snooty now? Oh boy, I think Bellaire too has become this was as well. Back in the day, all great places to visit.

I had the best cafe experience here! Amazing coffee and food, the staff was warm and welcoming, I was treated like family! We got the Ames St Benedict and the Manny Melt. Both delicious options. Their coffee was perfect. We also tried the cinnamon focaccia and their chocolate chip cookie - YUM!!!! I will definitely be back anytime I am near the area!
