I am so so so happy to finally find a good Döner joint in the Detroit area! I discovered Döner while studying abroad in Germany and searched years and years to find one. Honest to goodness, I almost shed a tear when I took my first bite. Look at these meals! They’re incredible! Portions were huge. I got the bowl this time and had enough for two dinners. The Loaded was loaded indeed. I got the beef/lamb meat option and I would suggest it to everyone. Next time, I’ll try the falafel. This location is very limited in space so it’s best for small groups or take out. Thank you Balkan House!

I lived in the Balkans growing up as a kid and have a soft spot for the food and culture. This place had some of my favorites including Sopska Salad and Pljeskavica (Balkans hamburger) that were both great! They also had homemade Kajmak which is like a cream cheese/butter flavor and was very good! Very friendly staff and excellent service, would come back!

As someone who grew up in Germany and that had authentic döner at times once a week and definitely regularly, I have been craving this dish for the longest time and have to say I was very impressed and fully satisfied. The bread, meat and sauce were amazing and basically what makes the döner a döner. The toppings (vegetables) vary, but were a great twist and were fresh! Overall I’ll try to be back twice a month, I wish there was a location closer to me. I thought it was spot on. Definitely delicious!
Also, I appreciate the great service, since we were late for a concert and the döner for dinner was my highlight of the day, so no way skipping that. So I called the business ahead of time and they made sure the food was freshly done by the time I got there in the friendliest manner.

I was first introduced during the pandemic and it was very tasty. Just stopped by this week and while the service was exceptional the food had no flavor. I questioned whether I had Covid because I tasted nothing which is so strange considering there was sauce and chicken on my chicken doner bowl. I even requested additional sauce and got no additional flavor. The portion size between rice and the rest of the ingredients was not balanced with the rice being dry and in abundance. Their quality doesn’t seem to be the same from 3-4 years ago.

My husband and I visited Balkan House this past weekend and would rate it a solid 4/5. While the food was fantastic and my husband loved it, I felt it could have been a bit more authentic. Listening to Katy Perry didn’t quite match the vibe of enjoying Bosnian hits! As someone who grew up with ćevape, I found them a bit lacking, but overall, it was a great experience. Since we don’t have comparable restaurants in Indiana, I wouldn’t hesitate to drive another three hours just to satisfy my cravings!

I used to live in Ferndale and was a regular at Balkan House, especially on Thursdays for their popular “Dönerstag” special. It was a highlight of the week—both the Döner and the wrap were included in the special back then, and the portions were generous, flavorful, and well worth the price.
However, I recently revisited after a few years away and was sadly disappointed by how much things have changed. The wrap is no longer included in the special, and while I understand prices and policies can change, the overall quality and portion size have dropped significantly. The Döner I received had noticeably fewer vegetables and barely any meat. The bread gives the illusion of a full meal, but in reality, it felt underwhelming and unbalanced.
Unfortunately, the value for the price is just not there anymore. I left feeling disappointed and won’t be returning anytime soon.
