The food at Culantro in Ferndale is good, but unfortunately it’s overshadowed by mediocre service. The staff seemed confused about which table each dish belonged to, and after paying a $64 bill plus an $11 tip, I asked for a small sauce. They charged me 50 cents for it. Really? You can’t give a customer a small cup of sauce? This shows a lack of value in their service — they made an extra 50 cents but lost a customer for good.
We have been wanting to try this place for a while now and are happy that we did. We did a pickup order and it went smoothly and the order was ready on time. Overall, the Tacu Lomo was okay and the steak bites were yummy but there wasn’t a lot of them. The entree consisted of mainly the rice and beans which had good flavor but was taking up the entire meal. There were no yellow peppers as stated on the menu description but the green onion and tomatoes were cooked nicely.
Amazing! Consistently delicious food, gracious staff, and a focused yet varied menu with three vegan entrees and at least a few sides. Vibrant cultural motifs adorn a cherished a lowkey spot in convenient walking distance to happenings downtown. We get the vegan culantro bowl often and it scratches an itch I've been chasing for many years, since a food truck at a festival. The plantains go crazy! Would be insane with some coconut milk vanilla ice cream 😉
