The atmosphere is nice and the details in the table settings and decor is beautiful. That being said, I told our server that I was allergic to fish and they served fish on the same plate as my food. Each of us ordered individual orders and they were served on the same platters and they cut the portions. If you order an afternoon tea and want to share it, you are charged an additional $19 even though there is no additional food. They combined our towers of food on the same serving trays which is fine, except they tried to cut our servings down and hoped we wouldn’t notice on top of putting fish with my food when I specifically said I’m allergic. I got the quiche and it was very burnt and when I told the server I could tell she was upset, which is probably due to the kitchen staff being upset with her. Overall, the vibe of the place was good but they want to rip you off and I feel as though they are understaffed and that the kitchen staff under performs. If they’re making $500 off of one table I feel as though we should have had a top tier experience.

First time trying High Tea Grand Rapids. We’ve never experienced High Tea before and it was a lot of fun! Great decor, and plenty of finger sandwiches, savory items and sweet treats to tempt your pallet! Loved the different choices for Teas too. Our Server Sarah was the highlight of our visit. Very nice, greatly personality! She explained everything in detail and how High Tea works which was appreciated. Thank you, we’ll be back!

My husband and I first visited the High Tea GR on November 5, 2023. At that visit we were impressed with the ambient decor and attentive service...but disappointed with the food...enough so that we felt we would not ever return. We had the occasion to be in Grand Rapids over St. Patrick's Day weekend (2024) and decided to give the High Tea GR another try. Again, we enjoyed the lovely space and pretty table decor, and had very attentive service as before...but this time we were very pleased with the food. Everything was tasty and nicely prepared, presented beautifully on the three-tiered tray. The scones were much better...more like a traditional English scone. An extra bonus was meeting the owner Melissa Langley and having a lovely conversation with her. My husband and I were happy we re-visited the High Tea GR and experienced the positive changes made since our November visit...and we look forward to coming back!

My mom and I went to afternoon tea here today. It was wonderful. We've always enjoyed going to tea, but this was a whole new experience for me; more formal than I've experienced before. We both went with the Afternoon tea which includes an assortment of sandwiches, scones and assorted desserts, and of course tea! As this was St Patty's weekend we had the option of the Irish tea option which subbed different desserts and an Irish bannock for the scone. All of the food was wonderful. The cucumber sandwich was so light and refreshing; the quiche was flavorful. I preferred the bannock to the scone, but both were very tasty and fun to try with clotted cream and jam or lemon curd. We were so full of goodies and tea that we took our desserts to go and I look forward to having them with a cup of tea tonight! The service was wonderful and the tea selection varied. I'm glad I asked our server, Sarah for her recommendation - it did not disappoint. This was a bit of a splurge for us, but so worth it. It's not just a meal, but a relaxing and enjoyable experience. This may be my go to special occasion treat for the future.

Good food but not nearly enough considering the price, and they charge you $19 if you share your meal? We would’ve just bought another meal had we known :( cute merchandise though!

Owner Melissa Langley has obviously devoted much time and effort to her concept, and it's apparent in every detail. The website design looks like a page ripped out of Victoria Magazine:, including gorgeous photos and thorough explanations of the tea experience, as well as menu selections (including gluten free options). The restaurant itself is spacious, but retains an intimate feel. Two sparkling crystal chandeliers lend elegance, as do the curated art, greenery, and table settings. Everything gives a feeling of "Relax. Time out from life. You deserve this experience."The staff is friendly and polite, lending an air of serenity. The menu includes a variety of teas, some included on the seasonal menu and some as specials. Please keep in mind that this is a TEA room; therefore the focus is on actual tea and not herbal tisanes which do not use leaves from the Camellia Sinensis plant. Each individual receives a pot of tea, plus two refills, which gives the option of sampling other teas. I'm picky, so the first thing I noticed was that the tea was served at the proper temperature. Yes, this is a big deal: it's not just boil the water and toss in the tea.Don't be fooled by the tiered tray brought to your table: it's MORE than enough food! I've had the pleasure of sampling two different seasonal menus, and was impressed with the quality and variety. Although not a fan of smoked salmon, High Tea's sandwich topped with capers was excellent. It was neither fishy nor overly smoked. Its replacement on the current menu is a Whitefish salad topped with a pickled radish rosette; this was equally flavorful . The Coronation Chicken served on wheat bread is a perfect balance of chicken and curried dressing with a hint of sweetness from the mango chutney. The cucumber and dill sandwich is just right, with all of the ingredients skillfully balanced. I did detect a teeny addition of garlic, which made it craveable. I could have eaten three more! The spinach and feta mini quiche was a nice, crumbly textural foil to the sandwiches. The scone. As I already mentioned, this is authentic. It contains a hint of sweetness and may seem a bit on the dry side for many people, but that's WHY one has the lemon curd, jam, and clotted cream to slather. It will not disappoint your tastebuds. All the little sweets are delightful, and again showcase the attention to detail. The madeleines were delicately iced; I did prefer the blood orange one over the rose madeleine. The petit fours and cookies were as pretty to look at as they were to eat. It is not always a given that a chef is equally good on both sides of the kitchen. Preparing savory items and baking are two entirely different disciplines. However, at High Tea, all food items are being prepared with care as to flavor and attractiveness. So is it worth the money? Well, yes. When one combines very well prepared food with a serene dining experience where one can linger over conversation and put the world on hold: absolutely. I could launch into my personal philosophy about meal experiences and rant on and on about what we have lost in our culture. Instead, I'll say, Time Out. Embrace beauty and what it will do for your soul. Of course, you wouldn't do this every day (but ironically, many British still do!), but when experienced, you will retain the memory and it will do you good. One more thing: why did I give only four stars to service? It's because everyone has a different concept of how much we want a server at our table. I've been to tearooms where servers have hovered, and others where they're politely absent. If everything is delivered to the table, it's a subjective thing. And, it's tricky to determine when a guest needs a refill on their hot water. It takes a really skillful server to do this unobtrusively. I get it.P.S. Great bathrooms, all very accessible.

I made a reservation to bring my three nieces in on a Sunday for a Girl' Day. They ranged in age from 6 to 10. We arrived at our reservation time and I was surprised to only see only 3 other occupied tables, especially on a Sunday afternoon. We were brought to our table, water was brought over, and we waited for a short time for our server to come over for our intro. Server was very sweet and friendly and offered recommendations, they were appreciated, as we were first timers. I guess I was unaware how expensive the experience was. $45 for a pot of tea (two refills and you are able to change teas), 4 savory items, 4 sweet, and one scone. We were told this is usually enough for one person and I did see that if you split this tray with someone it is a $19 split fee. There was a children's Fairy Tea that came with one pot of tea (refills included), 2 savory, 2 sweet, and a scone. They did offer soda or lemonade for children that did not want tea. They do add 18% gratuity to each check, something I missed and only realized after I had left and already tipped. It did call that out on the menu, but it would have been appreciated if they let me know when the check was brough, I assumed that was customary. The tables are laid out with all the customary tea necessities - plates, chargers, saucers, tea cup, spoon, tea strainer, sugar, and silverware. Cute and authentic. All 4 of us found the sweets to be delicious. The girls loved the petite fours the most, and I loved the lavender cookies. (the had a cream eclair, lavender short bread, orange Madeline, and a strawberry petite four available). I felt that they were fresh and did not think they tasted store bought or stale. I loved all the savory sandwiches (cucumber dill, quiche, whitefish, and a coronary chicken) - i think the whitefish was my favorite but I enjoyed them all. However, the girls did not. The chicken was recommended for the kids, but they did not care for the curry taste (their loss, I ate them!). Maybe a kid safe option would be a good staple to have... When our towers were brough out, our server told us that the scones were being freshly baked and would take 15 minutes. No issues and waiting for the warm scones was worth the wait. They were huge and delicious. We all loved the strawberry preserves (they do need to have more in their dish, as it was only half full and not nearly enough for two scones), clotted cream, and a lemon curd. I would have thought that the tea selection would have been larger, but maybe that's the traditional options!? The raspberry zinger was recommended for the girls. They thought it was okay, but they did add two sugar cubes each and then opted for the lemonade for their refill. I had the chai and it was nice - I was offered and did take the milk on the side. I got three cups out of my pot so I did not need a refill. They had a little timer on the table to tell you how long to let the tea steep for less to more strong. The interior is cute and fits the delicate tea aesthetic. I think they could have leaned in harder to the decor, but if they were airing on the side of not kitschy, I can totally understand that. Tables were a little small/tight with all the plates, dishes, and towers, but we made it work. To make more room, they should remove the decorative lantern in the middle. I don't remember hearing any music, it was pretty quiet. Restrooms were large and clean. One thing I assumed was the ability to purchase any of the tea you liked/ drank but i did not see that at the register. They did have a few pastries to purchase, but again - none that we had. All in all it was a fun and cute experience with the girls. I think it would have been a fun or nice touch to have the afternoon tea tradition explained to had a blurb on the table to read. Due to the price ($140+ before additional tip was added on top of added gratuity) for three kids and one adult, this is most likely not a regular destination but fun for special occasions. We had fun getting dressed up and trying something new.

I can only rate the service, because we were never seated. We went on Valentine's Day in the middle of the day, so completely on us for not having a reservation. The problem is we waited for over 10 minutes at the host station to even be acknowledged. The server finally came over and said she would try to find the hostess. After a couple more minutes the hostess finally appeared. She asked if we had a reservation we said no. She then informed us they didn't have a table, because they were understaffed on Valentine's Day. That was fine. The hostess saw us walk in and it felt like we were being intentionally ignored. The hostess seated another table and never came back out.My husband now refuses to give this place a second chance.

I made a reservation here for 8 people for 3:20 on Feb. 24 online. With a $50 deposit. This was a surprise for my daughter that would be trying on and purchasing her wedding gown. So I thought we make a ladies day of it. I called the next day to increase the number of people to 9. Our time was 3:20. When I left David’s Bridal I had 10 minutes to get there but I knew I was going to be a little late. Traffic was terrible so when I did get there it was 15 minutes past our start time. Then I couldn’t find parking. There are two tiny lots to either side but I went past the first one without even seeing it and pulled into the second that was full. When did finally make it the door it was now 20 minutes past our time. The hostess took 5 minutes to notice us. So 25 minutes late. Then it took 5 minutes more to get the manager that told us we could not be seated. I understand about being late but they also accept WALK INS. They would not even take us as walking for the hour of time we still had in our reservation and they kept my $50 deposit even though they said they would return it. OUR BILL was going to be at least $400 and my daughter did say yes to the dress even though we were told no here.I have been to tea in LONDON. I have had Devonshire clotted cream at HAMPTON COURT PALACE and the attendants there were welcoming of new comers. NEVER AGAIN. They will take your money and leave you no where to go!

Went here for me and my friend birthday and we have zero complaints! From emailing them beforehand for questions I had and reservation to the moment we paid and walked out of the door everything was exceptional! A little nervous of the food choices at first, but we all liked everything that we had. The price is very reasonable. It was a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere! The staff was friendly and patient. The location is nice. I am very pleased with my experience and I heard all my friends say they’d love to go back. Kudos for them bringing something like this to Grand Rapids!

If you’re gluten free you should come get tea here! Make a reservation ahead of time and it’s so good. They gave me the same options my friends had, so I didn’t feel like I was missing out on any options. It’s also extremely cute inside and the service was phenomenal. Great tea sandwiches, scones, desserts, and tea.

Such a lovely atmosphere with many thoughtful details that make your experience one of a kind! You can go all out for the “high tea” experience with hats and fancy attire, or keep it casual. Great for anyone young or old who appreciates the tradition of high tea or just enjoys sharing a nice atmosphere & cozy cup with a friend. They have an amazing selection of black teas and non caffeinated teas as well! The owner and her team are kind and care about your experience - you’ll definitely want to visit them!Wheelchair accessibility: The owner uses a wheelchair and seems to have designed the space with other wheelchair users in mind.
