I just do not know what the h*ll I just ate? I opened this deep dish pizza box only to see a puddle of water on the top of the sauce looking back at me. This should have been the first sign that things were not good with this 'lasagna pie' masquerading as a Chicago Deep Dish. As one other reviewer said, this is not a deep dish. The dough was so thin as the pie moved to the center that it truly reminded me of a lasagna noodle. The slices would not even hold together well enough to the move a piece from the pizza box to a plate. A mushy, collapsing upon itself mess. Looked more like lasagna when it finally made it to the plate. Had to use five sheets of bounty paper towels to mop up the excess water to see if I could salvage the pie. All for not. A waste of money. The sauce tasted very good and the cheese was fresh - that is it! Nothing else good to say about this $38.00 pie (including tip). Do yourself a favor, you want OK Chicago Deep Dish? Get the Gino's East Frozen Pizza from the Meijer freezer section and that will be money well spent. Loretta's, you do not have long on this pizza planet if you do not make radical changes. And, I don't think you have it in you...

Gross. Plain and simple. Takes 3 hours to cook a oil filled disaster. Don't waste your time or money. This is not even "Chicago Pizza" . I can recommend 200 better pizza places than this joke of a place.

Giving the Smashing Pepperonis, 14" pie, a solid 4.5 stars. As a previous resident of Chicago, I can say that this is a great deep dish option for West Michigan. The crust is unique and not necessarily the same as any of the Chicago options but it isn't bad either. All of the big players in Illinois have their own take on crust also. I'd bump the rating up to 4.8 stars if only they had a better ranch option. The avocado ranch just doesn't pair with the crust like it should in the midwest :) Do yourself and favor and get a side or two of giardinera to go with the goodness.

Sloppy, greasy and undercooked. I wish it was better! I ordered pick up and had a 3 hour wait for a giant pile of disappointment. There were incorrect toppings on both pizzas (not a special order either) and the gordy bread was so dry. So bummed.

This is pretty good Chicago-style pizza for not being located in Chicago! I lived in Chicago for several years and know (and miss) the pizza pretty well and Loretta's does a great job standing with the others. However, some things were just obvious that it wasn't a truly Chicago pizza, specifically the build of the pizza relating to the lack of sauce on the top and the overall depth of the pizza. For reference, my absolute all time favorite Chicago pizza place is The Art of Pizza. My pizza was delicious but the sauce did not go all the way to the edge of the crust; there was about an inch of crust/melted cheese, then the sauce started. It actually had a sloped crust like a more traditional pizza. True Chicago deep dish has just the width of the crust (maybe half a centimeter) standing above the sauce then a thick layer of sauce goes all the way to the edge. The flavor of the pizza was pretty good, however I found the sauce to be pretty sweet and would have preferred less sugar/sweet flavor. The sauce was also thinner/runnier and sliding off the cheese. Regarding depth, this deep dish was maybe 75% as deep as Chicago deep dish; needed more cheese and more sauce. I should not be able to easily carry a 14" deep dish pizza pie in one hand, it should be an olympic event bringing that thing home. I could've picked up an entire slice of Loretta's and eaten it by hand if I had to which would be impossible for a fresh hot Chicago deep dish. The crust thickness was right on and I really enjoyed the flavor of the crust (dare I say it reminded me of Pequod's). All that said, I will of course order from Loretta's again and recommend it to others! It's close enough to Chicago-style and saves a 2.5 hour drive.

Being from Chicago, I was left insulted by this so called “Chicago” pizza. Just because you cut your pizza into squares doesn’t make it Chicago pizza. You can’t just go around and cut things in squares calling it Chicago style. I ordered a deep dish too however they gave me a bowl of dough with sausage swimming in despair. Waited over 3 hours. So much sadness.

So glad we have a Chicago deep dish pizza place in town! We loved the crust and the ingredients were fresh. However, there were several areas that need to be addressed before we return. First, the pizza had too much sauce (water pooling in the box is not a good sign). Second, there was not nearly enough cheese. Third, the pizza toppings were sparse. It was a miss for us but we are hoping they find their groove.

Good pizza (however, they did forget a topping), good cheesy bread and the sub was excellent.

This may be the best pizza I’ve ever had...seriously. A little patience was totally worth the wait. We ordered the Taylor Street Deep Dish and the Rush Street tavern. I’m not sure what one I liked better. My husband isn’t a fan of pineapple on pizza, but he couldn’t deny how good the Rush Street tasted. Since we had two pizzas I had to use lots of willpower not to go for a another slice. Luckily they were both just as good the next day, and the next day, thanks to my toaster oven. Looking forward to trying it again soon.

Don't be deterred - Loretta's pizza is totally worth the persistence! My family and I tried the S.M.O.G. deep dish and the Soldier Field tavern pizza. Both were fantastic in their own way. The sauce was some of the best I've ever had and the ingredients were definitely top notch. Really filling, so you have to be careful not to overeat! Can't wait to try some more of their other offerings.

We had a terrible experience. It took us 4 days of trying to order the pizza to get it, the website ordering cue fills up fast. That was fine, they are new and popular I completely understand that. We ordered I waited 45 min then went to pick it up, called to tell them I was there, the staff who answered was short with me then put me on hold. After 25 min of being on hold, I saw a manager walking out to a car, so I called to them told them the situation, they told me to wait & they would be right out. 15 minutes later I went in, I was still on hold by the way. The manager saw me and turned around and did not show their face again. After another 15 min of waiting I got my pizza. I understand they are new and that deep dish pizza takes a long time to cook but an hour and 40 minutes with no apology seems excessive. I was left on hold for the entire 55 minutes I was there. As for the food, we got pizza and bread. The pizza was ehh but the bread was great. The price was high and given our experience not worth it.

I've had about ten different items on this menu already and all are stellar! Deep Dish is legit, but my favorite has become the Tavern Style- perfect for one hungry person or a lighter meal for two. Sauce is the star and the fresh ingredients make it pop. Always a busy place but you can order ahead, which is a nice feature. Keep up the good work!

Quality ingredients + good flavor, poor execution. Pizza is thick at the crust but incredibly thin at the center. Not your typical deep dish. FYI, I ordered opening day and gave it a second chance today...

Terrible "chicago style". Yeah. Whatever. It was a sloppy mess of sauce no cheese. Oh and the pizza cost $30. Which would be fine if it was truly authentic chicago style

I have lived in the Chicago area and have had 100's of deep dish pizzas. From the chain restaurants like Lou Malnati's and Giodarno's plus plenty of family owned pizza places, like I said, I've had A LOT of Chicago deep dish pizza. Loretta's is an awesome welcome and needed option for deep dish pizza in Grand Rapids that is as good as or probably better than anything I've had on the other side of the Lake. The ingredients had so much flavor and you can taste the quality!!!
