What a great spot! There are great seating options inside and outside, the baristas are friendly and the coffee is delicious! I also really enjoy how much light comes in, especially on those cold winter days. Definitely will continue to return to madcap!!

We stopped in to the Fulton Street location and had the hot Cafe Miel. It was delicious. Very inviting and cozy spot.

I just moved to the area from Ann Arbor, which was a haven for good coffee in generous sizes. This was the first cup of coffee I bought in Grand Rapids. I have worked in service, so I am always going to tip the workers well, and they were speedy and kind. However the portion size of the coffee sorely disappointed me.

I find paying $10 for a 4 oz cup of coffee to be a traumatic experience.

I also didn't enjoy my coffee, I got a seasonal banana flavor, and it had a sour after taste and there were grains of banana at the bottom of my cup, which I reached quickly.

Not a fan of this business model, and I will never go back. Since my entire family also are foodies familiar with the gourmet coffee scene from Ann Arbor, I would be embarrassed to take them here and I will be leading them elsewhere. My father has no problem spending money, and has worked at U of M CAEN as management for 35 years. He too would complain about the portion size and never go back. Even people who are privileged dislike small portion sizes and find them greedy and inconvenient.

While the coffee is fine, and it’s pretty with their minimalist aesthetic, the reason I will not be returning is the staff. The baristas are consistently snotty to just plain rude. Maybe that’s the atmosphere they are going for? There are other small business coffee shops in the area that I intend to spend my money at moving forward.

There is a reason this location is always busy. Great coffee, better service, and a lot of natural light. I do wish they would return to their pre-pandemic hours (I was often there 'til before close). But I am so grateful I live nearby and can grab some espresso beans or a quality cup of coffee on a morning walk or settle in on a rainy day to read a book or work remotely. Keep it up, y'all!

Not a ton of parking/have to walk a bit. Good seating/variety. Not the best coffee/expensive. Lots of food options other than classic pastries

I've been to the downtown location a few times but decided to finally check out this spot. I ordered Eureka as espresso and Party blend as a pour-over. Both were excellent as expected. Indoor and outdoor seating. Attentive and knowledgeable staff. I rated 4 stars for atmosphere because I don't think it is very cozy and comfortable. Same goes for the other location.

As for Madcap itself, you'd be hard pressed to find higher quality coffee in West Michigan, let alone greener coffee. The owners don't trust the fair-trade label and intentionally overpay for their beans, maintaining close relationship with each producer to ensure beyond the shadow of a doubt that they are paid fairly. This is the best coffee roaster in Grand Rapids, and its not overrated.
