“Bravo to the staff at Max's in Grand Rapids! We went last night with 6 people, and were celebrating 2 birthdays. I had not done my research and thought we were in for a 'canned' touristy experience. I was very wrong. We were seated very close to our reserved time (highly recommend making a reservation a few days in advance). You cannot be in the bar area if you aren't 21. We were seated on the second floor, and we requested a table set apart due to hearing concerns; the booth was perfect. First, the kitchen staff must be a well-oiled machine, so much food and so unique and delicious! Our waitress Katie was excellent: quick with a smile, accommodating of special requests, seemed unflappable, and did a great job timing how our food came out (we ordered some apps, some entrees, then dessert - all to share around our table). We had alcoholic drinks as well as zero-proof cocktails, all of which were outstanding! So glad we all shared the food, as it amplified the experience by letting us taste so many different dishes. What we ordered: pupu platter and chicken satay. Then spring rolls, crab rangoons. and the ginger salad (large portion - great for family style). From the featured specials, we had the mahi-mahi on couscous with tomatoes and spinach; steak pasta with demi-glace and gorgonzola; mahi-mahi tacos; and a Caribbean jerk handheld wrap. And for dessert, the PB cheesecake and key lime pie, both light and exceptionally made. Everyone in our group raved about the flavors in the food AND how well it was made; each aspect of our experience was exceptional. We averaged about $55 per person due to the alcoholic drinks and 25% tip.“
