One of the top small live music venues in West Michigan. Always a great show. Service is not good but worth the trade-off.

I want to love Tip Top for its great music and atmosphere, and they seem so committed to building a community, but the service doesn’t match the home-y feel of the bar. Tonight was a mildly-busy Saturday night, and I stood/sat at the bar for 10+ minutes just to close out my tab, watching at least 5 people walk up and be served before I was even acknowledged. Meanwhile, two of my friends were sitting at a booth (mind you, there were empty seats at the bar and tables at this time) and were pestered if they had more people joining as the booths are “for parties of 4 during shows.” I understand doing this if it’s busy, but felt unnecessary in this situation- it’s not like anyone was pining for a place to sit. Wish the staff was more conscientious. I understand it takes a lot to manage a place like this, but a little thoughtfulness goes a long way in making people feel welcome instead of frustrated or uncomfortable.

Great music venue, staff is awesome!
I was just there for the first time ever. I went there to see a band called the Surfrajettes. The show was great. The sounds was great, and I will definitely go again. The cons... the place is a little on the smalle side, and I got there late, so finding a place to sit is tough. Luckily, I found an empty seat near a small group of people. I told them I'd buy the table a round if they let me sit next to them. They said don't worry and you can sit there. So the people were nice. The guy cooking the food has to work on a small grill, so it took a minute to get my patty melt, but once I did, it surely hit the spot. The place looks like a rough side of town so,I was worried about my car but nothing happened. Before coming here I had no idea there was a rockabilly bar in G.R. I will definitely go back in the future. But I will for sure hold a table.

Was here last night for the Volk show. Great room for an intimate show. The MC was great, the burger and apps were great, the server was attentive and made sure we were taken care of. Would love to come back!
