Before covid happened I would have easily said this was my favorite Asian restaurant in Lansing. Things have changed though, and not for the better unfortunately. They do have dining in now but it's kind of strange. You have to order your meal 1st at the counter, then you can be seated. You are not offered any soft drinks; only hot tea or water that are in jugs in the dining area. The food is served on Styrofoam plates, and if you want a straw you have to ask. Unfortunately the food was below par. The chicken did not taste like chicken and the fried rice was extremely salty; almost inedible. The menu has been shortened a lot and they were out of some of the options. I'm sad to say I probably won't be back.

Great family owned business. Fresh food. Overall, a great place.

I have been eating at Huapei for almost 40 years, through two generations of owners. While the building is plain and lacking in decorations, the food is the best Chinese cuisine in the Lansing area. The current owners make people feel like family. I have yet to try the sizzling rice soup, which I hear is very popular, but I can never turn down their wonderful hot and sour soup. The potstickers are so very good, and the Huapei chicken is always hot and flavorful. Keep in mind that it is a small family run place without a large staff. The food is always worth the wait.

Their egg drop soup is very disappointing. Otherwise, the food is probably decent/ average. Customer service is above average.

I don’t know how about his place isn’t more popular. I’ve lived in or around Lansing for the past decade and no one has brought it up. The egg rolls are always fresh and the portions are good. Give this place a try, I know I was t disappointed.Btw, I added the food to a plate at home. You get a lot more than the picture shows lol.

The restaurant is open for dine-in, but the air conditioning is barely working. The restaurant is in a really bad shape, but we gave it a try based on good reviews. We were not impressed by the quality of food served.

The best Chinese food around. Always big portions of hot and delicious food. The service is always great. If you like spicy the Huapei chicken is phenomenal.

My favorite place to go when I’m back in town. I live in NYC and I have to say, this still is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants all time.

Great service, delicious hot food that is consistent. Every single time I have been here the food has been perfect and they give you big portions. I highly recommend them. The Huapei chicken has just the right amount of spice. Real fried rice. Always just an all around great experience

A review I posted elsewhere back in 2008; If you check their current food inspections by the county, it's not encouraging that much has improved. Huapei used to be one of my favorite places about 5 years ago. Recently moved back to Lansing and came in for dinner. Sadly, the place has gone downhill. Peeling wallpaper, Duct Tape hanging off the emergency exit, a huge dent in one wall, cardboard covering a hole in the wall. Price changes penciled in on old menus. I'd have left then and there except that I knew they used to have good food. Ordered an appetizer [Crab Rangoon] that was served lukewarm, sent it back. My entree arrived [Kung Pao Chicken], I took 5 awful bites and decided to pay the bill and leave. Spent the next two days with food poisoning. It's a shame as this place used to be good. For now, stay far-far away from Huapei.

I always loved to go there but today's take out was a total disappointment. I ordered spicy Szechuan Shrimp dish (it comes with stir fried vegetables that I know) and they served me a very sweet dish, (most probably general tso's shrimp or sweet and sour shrimp or or something else). It was breaded n fried and with very sweet gravy. The lady on the counter insisted it was spicy Szechuan Shrimp. I knew it wasn’t because I ate the dish there before, I know how it looks like. I even showed her some photos from the internet how Szechuan Shrimp supposed to look like.Attached the photo of what they gave to me as spicy Szechuan Shrimp (it was terribly sweet ironically)Very disappointed. Will never go there again.Goodbye.
