We came in with the goal of trying as much of the menu as we could, and we definitely did. We ended up spending more than planned, but it was worth every dollar. For reference, we were around $20–30 per person, but you could easily spend less and still get great portions.
Right away you can tell this place is different. It’s not your typical taco spot. It feels more chef-driven and flavor-forward, and you can taste that in everything.
The lobster taco completely exceeded expectations. A lot of places advertise lobster and barely include it, but not here. It was loaded. Every bite had real chunks of lobster, and nothing felt skimpy or filler-heavy. That alone would bring us back.
The mango and goat cheese empanadas were one of those items you order out of curiosity and end up talking about afterward. They were packed with goat cheese and paired with a mango jam that balanced everything perfectly. Sweet, tangy, and savory all at once. Easily one of our favorite bites. If these are a seasonal or limited item, get them while you can.
I also had the chicken burrito bowl, and it was solid all around. Fresh, flavorful, and filling without feeling heavy. You can tell they’re intentional with their ingredients and how everything is put together.
The blueberry cornbread was a really unique touch. Not something you expect here, but it worked. Slightly sweet, a little different from the usual, and a great way to break up all the savory flavors.
They also have three house sauces, and each one had its own personality. Nothing felt like an afterthought. It’s clear they put effort into building flavor across the entire menu, not just the main items.
Overall, this is the kind of place where you come to try a few things, share, and find your favorites. Everything we had was done exceptionally well, and we’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Saugatuck.

A quick Google search helped me find Saugataco and it was so worth the trip! There was not a single thing we tried that we didn’t love. Portion sizes are solid. We were served fast and the staff are great! We will certainly be back.

Casual dining restaurant with amazing food and service. I always feel a bit stressed ordering due to the large menu but they move things along. I love the mango goat cheese empanadas. Such a treat! Such friendly staff and the owner is always there, making sure things go smoothly. The large nachos were a hit!

Fantastic, delicious tacos are readily available at this terrific low-key place in Saugatuck. It’s counter-service-style ordering, but the experience and service are good nevertheless. The clear instructions on how to order on display right before you enter are a big help.

The prices are reasonable. The margaritas are not the best I have ever had, but they’re good and reasonably priced. And everything was really fast and friendly.

The setting is simple and nondescript but fine. The major drawback was the noise level, which made it difficult to hear and difficult to not be unduly distracted. Admittedly, the noise was coming almost exclusively from one source—a table of six loud customers. Once they stumbled out, it became much easier to have a good conversation and enjoy the meal!

All in all, the somewhat oddly named but nevertheless high quality SaugoTaco is a gem and a wonderful find in Saugatuck.

We had a good experience at Saugataco and really enjoyed the food overall. My partner ordered the steak fajitas (since there wasn’t an option for just steak tacos), and he really liked them; great flavor and nicely cooked. I ordered the ground beef tacos, and while they were good, the meat could have used a bit more seasoning to really make it stand out.

We also ordered chips and salsa (not complimentary), and I did enjoy them; the salsa was tasty, though there was quite a bit of it compared to the amount of chips.

I did appreciate how you can order 1–3 tacos, which makes it easy to customize your meal. I just wish the menu was a bit clearer in some spots, for example, it wasn’t explained what “greens” meant (cilantro? peppers? something else?). The margarita selection was also a little limited; I would’ve loved to see more variety.

The decor was probably my biggest letdown. The space was very clean, but also very plain; mostly white and lacking the color and personality I was expecting from a taco spot.

Overall though, the food was good and it was an easy, enjoyable meal. With a few tweaks to menu clarity, seasoning, and atmosphere, it could easily be a standout.

So glad I finally tried this place out! I tried out the fish&chips taco, falafel taco & the crab cake taco. Paired with a delicious Michigan IPA, that whomever I ordered from helped me decide to get, made for a lovey experience. True quality ingredients, friendly & knowledgeable service, I can’t wait to put this near the top of my list of places I visit while in the area. I highly suggest getting the fish & chips taco & if you only get one thing the falafel taco because the flavor was phenomenal!

Stumbled into this place. Nice take on non-traditional tacos. We went with a paloma and a margarita for starters. Can't go wrong with either one. The paloma was nice and smoky. Our 6 yr old is a hard sell, but loved the quesadilla and crushed the whole plate. We had the chips and queso for starters and it was delicious. Followed that up with the coconut shrimp taco, fish and chips taco, and southwest chicken taco. The ghost pepper salsa was a delight as well! We will be back during our visit here!

My wife and I have shared quite a few plates of the nachos this summer. The food is excellent. You can tell they use fresh quality ingredients. We can share a large nacho plate and both leave full. This makes for an affordable date night for us. Alec, one of the owners, is always friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant.
