Ordered a bowl of seafood chowder plus salad. around $15 with salad about $25.
Expecting a very good bowl of seafood chowder , was disappointed, first it came out warm. Very little fish in it, maybe 3 small chunks. More of a water down broth. Should have been called potato chowder. Maybe they ran low and added a lot of vegetable broth to it to get them through the night. Second year in a row that I’ve been there and have been disappointed. We were in a larger group, only two were satisfied with the meals. Last time there I ordered grilled fish.
Servers, staff very nice. Wonderful location. Very busy place in the fall , waited over an hour too be seated.
Won’t be coming back.

Made the mistake of having our 10 year anniversary at Angry Trout, we thought it was the nicest restaurant in Grand Marais; it is far from it! Don't waste your time going here; Gunflint Tavern, Voyager Brewing, and Hippie Taco are all much better food at a much, much better price. The 20% gratuity at Angry Trout allows for the wait staff to be almost completely absent from doing their job. Our seats put us in the scream zone, where the expo girl screeched at the top of her lungs all night long, and we were also treated to a view of a gal without gloves in the kitchen scratching her face and arm pit before diving those same hands into the food line to finish topping plates. Best of all was our 15 minute wait to get our check from our coughing sick waitress who needed to manhandle our drink glasses earlier in the night. (held top of glass where you drink from, instead of bottom of glass). Can't imagine how long the entire process would have taken if we had wanted to order a dessert. We will never be returning again.

The grilled whitefish was wonderful. Liked that they had numerous gluten free options. Service was good once we finally got seated. Restrooms were unisex and needed cleaning. Maple mustard dressing was spectacular. I have an allergy to tomatoes, so I used it to dip my fries in.

Tip is included with price and that is okay with me. Good food and you can't beat the location.

I would give ZERO STARS If that was an option. I have a medical service dog and The hostess was one of the rudest people and verbally attacked us once she sat us at our OUTSIDE table. When we were walking out another outside table had the assume rude experience with her and said staff is hit or miss with rudeness. They were locals but like the food and risk it. She was belligerent with regards to my dog, who was wearing her service harness, asked what service did she provide, I saiid medical. I told her I can show you her service license and she said no then asked what was wrong with me. Again totally against the law. I have rights too!
To top it off we sat outside on the deck not even in the restaurant. The waiter was nice but since they already add a 20% tip to ALL CHECKS. Once our food came we never saw him and had to get up to get more water for our table. We were traveling, will NEVER go there again.

Pros: fresh food, scenic views

Cons: long wait, outside seating is not dog friendly so if you are visiting with a pet, choose a different restaurant.

Service was good, nice view. Food for our group of 6 was meh. Most of us had the whitefish sandwich, bland, could have used more seasoning, messy to eat. Nice that they have sauces on the table. FYI, bill automatically includes a 20% tip regardless of group size.

Sabrina was an amazing Host
Very helpful and great conversationalist
She made the meal very enjoyable
The food offerings I had were outstanding, the 3 others I was with had the herring and found it dry
Service, Location looking over the water was great.
It is very expensive however
We are from out west in Alberta Canada travelling the south and west sides of Lake Superior and this restaurant was referred to us from a local Cruise ship company in Bayside
So the good offerings are well known In your area

The best tartar sauce ive ever had! We had a lovely seat outside on a sunny day, the views are spectacular. Service was quick and friendly. Food was delightful. I love that they include information on where their ingredients come from, and fun facts like the chairs are made from old tractor seats. (Super comfy btw!) cant wait to come back!

Location! Location! Location! This restaurant is a wonderful spot right in the Grand Marais Marina. The host was welcoming and Sven our waiter was very gracious and attentive. The shitoki mushrooms were absolutely delicious (served with 2 sauces, one spicy, one creamy.. both yummy). We will have to return when we have time for a full meal.
