My favorite restaurant in Grand Marais! They have fresh local seafood, incredible salads and you cannot BEAT the view from the restaurant. It’s a bit on the nicer/more expensive side but great for a nice dinner out (and they’re kid friendly too!)

Been going to the Angry Trout for years and always try to stop by at least once a year when I'm in the area. I'm a creature of habit so I can only speak to the Fish and Chips basket, and it's always amazing. While I haven't tried one, their salads look amazing, and I've always heard really good things.Pros:- You're right on the lake! They expanded a few years back so there's more internal seating for those blustery and cold days and the interior is nice and cozy, with lots to look at all around you.- They really try and support local businesses as much as possible by working with local artisans for tableware, salt/pepper shakers, napkins, even tables and chairs. They get as much locally caught fish as they can, source as much fruit and vegetables from local farmers when the season allows, and really just try to be as connected as possible to the local community.- Food is always fantastic. Fish is fried to order and steaming hot when it comes out, waffle fries are also consistently really good, and their cranberry coleslaw is always a winner.- Condiments: an odd category, but their tartar sauce is home made and remains my favorite tartar sauce; when I eat there I slather it all over everything and love every bite that much more.- I've not encountered anything but really friendly staff, and have always had a pleasant experience.Cons:- Price I guess? Even when I was a poor college student I felt their food was worth the price, but it is on the slightly spendy side at $20-$30 per person for food and drink. The money is at least supporting local people and local businesses, so again, it doesn't seem out of line.

Burger was ok, fish fritters were really hush puppies, and the cost of what we received floored me. A medium burger without cheese or any extras, and a basket of bad hush puppies, delivered with bad service. No drinks. Nothing extra, cost $42. Service was fairly non

Would do a negative star on service if I could. Walked in today with a party of 6, stood around at the front for a while, then a taller black guy stood in the other room and just asked how many in a very unfriendly and unwelcoming tone. He disappeared and we stood and watched other employees come and go from the front counter and not once did anyone else acknowledge us. We finally decided we weren’t wanted there and walk away to the fish n chips place next door. We were greeted with friendly smiles and welcoming tones. We enjoyed our experience there and felt they were happy to see us. Don’t put up with the poor service, go where it’s nice.

Everything about my fish basket was annoyingly delightful. I was not expecting made-in-house items, at all. This is the place to go to remember grandma's pickles, for sure. Mint in tartar sauce? (Was that mint?) Something in there was not working in my favor, and I suspect is was mint. But i did enjoy it, greatly!

Great ambience, great customer service. Went to the beautiful city of Grand Marais , during this snowless winter. Even though their was not much tourists around, their was a 15min wait for us in the afternoon.it Seems this is a favorite spot among locals and tourist but if you look around, there are not a lot of restaurants to have many choices. We order the fish sandwich -I had it grilled (choice to fry it or grill) with waffle fries (another way of saying crisscut fries) My lovely partner- Order the fish and chips (white fish was fish of the day) with waffle fries. Appetizer: chowder of the day Drinks: Duluth hard fry cider Service was pleasant quick and attentive. Food : -Grilled fish sandwich was very good. Nicely grilled with lettuce tomatoes and their delicious homemade Tatar sauce. Grill fish was tender but needed some seasoning- was bland -Fish n chips : fish was fried perfectly but it was not seasoned so it it taste bland- salt and pepper would of done it justice or one of my favorite American seafood seasoning-Old Bay would been great. The waffle fries came hot and crispy - was really good Chowder of the day: the soup was very basic - not good or bad. Nice sourdough bread that came with it. Drink: Duluth hard cider was very delicious- nice balance of sweetness to sour and alcohol taste . Overall: very nice cute restaurant- decor and home feeling ambience. Service was great. 3 stars only the food. Every thing else was good. Would try again for the food . Maybe second time around will be better. Highlight of the experience: Can't beat the view we had during the afternoon lunch. Best thing is their homemade Tartar sauce. It is super good must dip fries and fried fish with it.

The fish sandwich was good as was the soup. Good atmosphere, friendly service. What frustrates me is the 20% service fee. I'd much rather just see the already expensive prices go up more. Our $85 worth of food quickly went to $130+ after taxes, 20% service fee and a tip...

We have eaten here a number of times. The mushroom appetizer was wonderful. The waiter said the fish is the same on anything that says fish, he wasn't kidding. We had 3 meals, all had very bland flavorless fish. Watch out they add a 20% service charge and don't tell you. If you don't notice and tip on top (which I have in the past) they high five and say sucker as you leave.

Each of us agreed, the food was outstanding. When I know I am not equipped to cook a meal served to me, I actually love it.Not sure how to proceed about the service we received. Smug, comes to mind. There were several interactions which left me wondering about our servers choice to work in hospitality. One instance, we asked for water, and the force with which he dropped the glasses, at the end of our table, undelivered, shook our table, and disrupted our conversation. Unexpected.I hate giving reviews like this. But, his demeanor merits a report, so that management can correct his behavior, and help him appreciate serving such awesome food. Otherwise, he should look at work in the woods.

I had the vegetable skewers, which the chef confirmed was vegan. I chose wild rice, it is local to MN. The dish overall was very good and exactly what I wanted to eat during my trip to the North Shore, fresh and simple whole foods. The restaurant was cute, especially around sunset/golden hour.
