This charming old historic home serves delicious food in a friendly atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit. It is an iconic place where the governor of Minnesota signed the legislation for the development of the Gunflint Trail in the 1920s. As a resident of Grand Marais who has been going to this restaurant for 50 years, the food is delicious and the live music in the summer lots of fun. We just ate there tonight and it prompted me to write this review.

If you are looking for a good meal, do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. It’s an absolute shame that the food is so bad here, because the dining room is gorgeous.

That being said the best thing about the $80 meal was the iceberg lettuce salad. The bread had been microwaved, the potato stackers had been prepared earlier and microwaved, my baked potato had been microwaved, and to be honest, my broiled shrimp also tasted microwaved. I’m not even sure they have an oven there after our experience.

We were the only people in the dining room, and that should have tipped us off.

I got the spaghetti and meatballs, it was the best I’ve ever had and the portion was MASSIVE. I got 4 meals out it. Very cute and romantic atmosphere.

Love the Supper Club concept/tradition and Birch Terrace is one of the best we’ve encountered!
Like being at Grandma’s house…very Up North dining room, friendly folks taking your order and serving, and just dern good fresh food.
If you’ve not done a supper club, start here…if you have, you won’t be disappointed!

The building is adorable, quaint, and historic.. and it feels like it's about to fall apart at any second. I'd be surprised if it's up to code. But I love the decor. The food was good, soup and mac and cheese were great. The service was not the friendliest but that's fine. We had a beautiful table in the corner overlooking the bay and patio which was lovely.

Absolutely terrible service. We waited for 1 hr 30 minutes for a Reuben & chicken sandwich! The waiter never checked on us. They switched waiters twice. The place was not even busy. Only good thing is the view of Lake Superior.

We got an odd time so we are the only ones dining to begin with.
Food was quite good. Better than my expectations. The waitress had a lot going on so couldn't be as attentive as desired, but she was very personable. Being charged for each glass of iced tea was a surprise, tho.
Will we go back? Yes!

Yea, I had to order food and get the hell Ottawa there. No ketchup, as well. Nice old lady bagged it up, so I tossed a $20 and ran

I haven’t eaten there yet, instead closed down the place for an evening. The bartender was great, no nonsense, as was the place, and inexpensive too compared to most joints in townOne of the oldest buildings in town, it’s beautiful, though it needs some work, but so do I. I’d love to see some more TLC put into it. Regardless, it’s what I’d deem it to be this town’s dive bar and I love it!
