The name has changed to Sporto South of the Border and with that name change came other changes. The food was tasteless. Potatoes were dry and flavorless. The french toast was mush inside. We used to eat breakfast there every morning of our vacation and we will no longer eat there. So disappointing.

Cozy, good food and friendly wait staff. Try the walleye, it’s fresh from the lakes and delicious. Service is warm and has a small town feel. They got a sense of humor. On their menu they call themselves the acronym of South Of the Border (S.O.B.) 🤣😃

This is a good diner. You can have a full breakfast or choose something from the lunch menu. We had Fish and Chips on the features menu. Fresh-caught herring (think super fresh, flaky white fish) and some solid french fries. Booth seating.

Maybe breakfast is OK, but this place sucks for lunch.

Just giving it to you guys straight, but we came here for lunch and all of us were incredibly disappointed, especially for the price. First of all, the atmosphere is a dumpy diner which wouldn't be an issue if the food was good or a good value, but neither of those things is true. I ordered a burger which was small and lackluster, especially for 11 bucks. That's a burger only, no fries or sides. Speaking of which, to make it a "basket" is 6 bucks more which is a side of fries and a thimble full of coleslaw. Seriously, I laughed at the quantity of slaw when it came out. It is literally one large bite. The real kicker was when my girlfriend saw her chicken sandwich she ordered though. It was a Tyson frozen chicken patty on a regular store bought hamburger bun. We're talking the lowest quality chicken patty possible with a side of fries and one bite of cold slaw for 16 bucks. I'm usually the critical one and my girlfriend is easy going, but even she has been making fun of this chicken sandwich for the rest of our trip here.

You can get better quality food, better service, and a better atmosphere 1 block away at the Dairy Queen for half the price. This place is a joke and I hope you don't eat there. Not for lunch anyway. We tried it because the reviews were decent and I've never been more disappointed by other reviews compared to my own experience than this.

Good hamburger, but expensive ($10+ with lettuce and tomato, $15 with fries and cole slaw). Most food in the area is expensive. Friendly service, though a bit slow. Crowded when we were there at 11:30 AM.

Great little small-town diner! We've been to Grand Marais many times and never even knew this place was here, but we'll add it to our "must-stop" list for future visits.
We had breakfast omelettes with hash browns...delicious. Ample portions.
Our server was Aspen and she was great.
