“Great place, good food, weird vibe! The waitress or cook was off. We ordered an appetizer. Our friends ordered a different appetizer after us. Their appetizer arrived. We asked about ours. She told us it will be coming. Our food arrived and we asked again about the appetizer. She seemed confused. The appetizer never arrived and when she brought the bill she said something about never getting the appetizer. The whole exchange was weird. They should also take salads off the menu. That was not available when we were there either.“

Turf Club Dive Bar • $$
1601 University Ave W, St Paul - 6.28 miles

“I love Turf Club. This is a classic music venue with great service. I have been there a few times now and have never had a bad experience. The stage is elevated a bit so even if you're in the back, you can see the performance. This place isn't huge, so you get a very intimate setting. Great options at the bar for drinks and they have food, even though I haven't tried anything yet. Looks good though! I could not believe the service we got the last time we were there. We had a table and our server was so on top of everything. Never had to wait long for a drink refill. He was so nice and funny. Really added to the whole experience! I always keep an eye out for events at Turf Club because I'll take any excuse to visit here!“

Spot Bar Bar • $
859 Randolph Ave, St Paul - 7.3 miles

“For me neighborhood bars are the heartbeat of the community. A good place to get information on things to eat, see and do. The Spot has that feel. A smaller place with room for 6-10 at the bar and 4-6 booth/tables. The flavor in the air was a musty grandmas living room with a hint of an ashtray. A pinball machine, darts and machine fed pull tabs are available as well as paperback books and a big Bible. The bartender was the kind that uses a lot sarcasm to keep things in order and that’s not bad especially when you see the same people most of the time. A shot and a beer was 9$. If I was ever in the neighborhood again I’d check out another place for variety but would have no issue with going back. Enjoy!“

“3.5 stars. Is a decent place. Food and beer was good. With a name like "Dubliner" you'd expect a little more Irish Pub feel. Was a solid sports and grill. No complaints about the food or service. They were good. Just not really an Irish Pub to me.“

Ted's Recreation Bar • $$
1084 Larpenteur Ave W, St Paul - 3.73 miles

“Ahh Ted’s Rec. I kinda dig the place. Cool old building just kinda hanging out on a lot that has pot holes your car can disappear into. Pinball game, darts, pool table and juke box was all the recreation I could see unless I was blatantly missing something. Girls in the young 20s and guys of all ages. Almost had a daddy complex kind of feel but could have just been that night. Bartender was courteous and didn’t f around like manyyounger bartenders do. I’ll stop back if I find myself back in the area.“

“Came here for an afternoon of bowling and food. The bowling itself was an old-fashioned experience, with no automated score keeping systems. I appreciated the authenticity, although one thing to note: when you bowl a strike, the pins don’t come back so you have to hit the reset button. Wasn’t common knowledge because we witnessed other groups getting waitstaff attention due to the issue.. putting up a sign that explains the process would likely help future customers, and save time for the staff having to explain..The place definitely has charm, although I was concerned about cleanliness. It’s dingy, musty, & doesn’t seem to have been cleaned in years.. at least where we ate (the bowling alley downstairs). Walls in the bar downstairs are covered in dollar bills which is fun but also just.. unsanitary. Who knows how long they’ve been there, collecting dust/debris and grease. Brought hand sanitizer luckily.A member of our group used the bathroom and said they wouldn’t have used it if it wasn’t an emergency.. so, there’s that. With all of that said, I’d still come back for the food, just upstairs or takeout. Their burgers and bar snack food were wonderful! Especially the fries and cheese curds. And the service friendly and attentive. Overall a good experience.Parking: Sunday afternoon had plenty of free street parking.“

“The Country Lounge has cheap drinks and they make a great Bloody Mary! They have pull tabs, a pool table, and a TouchTunes player. It’s definitely a dive bar, but it’s always a lot of fun! You can order Heggie’s pizza here, which are pretty tasty.“

“I really enjoyed my first visit to Half Time Rec. The cheese curds were good, as were the affordable drinks. They didn't seem to be doing table service, so we had to go to the bar to order. We were quite hungry and thirsty, so I'm glad that we didn't sit awkwardly at our table for too long. It was a little loud with background music and growing crowd noises, but I'm sure others were enjoying it. I'd be eager to go back to try the breakfast food, or some of the dinners, too.“
