So sad to hear they are closing! We went twice last weekend while visiting MN. Sooooo good!
My family and I decided to try Herbie’s, and we really enjoyed it. The idea of a vegan chicken shop was also just fun for us. The shop itself is very small (and cute!), but the person working was kind, and even with multiple people ahead of us, our order came out pretty quickly. We ordered the Large bucket for the three of us, and it was plenty of food—with leftovers. The chicken was crispy with a delicious coating, and the sauces were great. The mashed potatoes and tater tots were all standard—good but nothing outstanding. However, the biscuits with maple butter? Amazing. I am the only vegan in my family, but everyone was impressed, so I would call it was a win for all of us. Great stop! #Veganuary Updated from previous review on 2025-02-01
SO good! I take my non-vegan friends here. Very filling, delicious vegan comfort food.
Chicken, biscuits, tots, and some of the best mac n' cheese ever. Everything is very filling, so make sure to be nice and hungry before digging in. Great sauces too. Updated from previous review on 2024-12-23
Superb vegan fried chicken! However, it is a small, hole-in-the-wall place with no public restroom (so mostly a take-out place, but I typically choose to dine-in). The vegan milkshakes are mediocre and overpriced. Even so, the sides are often very good, and the excellent vegan fried chicken is reason enough to go there.
Vegetarian options: Everything there is vegan, including the delicious vegan fried chicken.

The food is really good, including the mock chicken and all the sides. Some of the best tots around. However, they are only open on special occasions, with the limited hours constantly changing. And if you liked what you got last time, chances are it will be out of stock or off the menu when you try to order it again.

I live in the south and I keep an extremely busy calendar, but let me tell you something in my Jim Carey voice …. their fried “chicken” is amazing and has me studying my calendar for when I can pop into town and see a show at the Guthrie and stop by Herbie’s for some wonderful hospitality and guilty pleasure(s) of their fried “chicken”, mashed potatoes, and biscuits. A good time- as my best good friend can say. A GOOD TIME!!
Good when you want some comfort food, but the seitan slabs of chikn are too thick.
My favorite vegan option in Minneapolis.
Highly recommend the chicken strips, house sauce, Mac-n-cheese and cinnamon sticks!

This was the nastiest food I’d ever eaten. I should have known when we walked in and saw people left and there were trays full of uneaten food just left on the tables. I took maybe 5 bites total. Had a terrible stomach ache the entire ride home. My friend was with me and also had a bad stomachache. $50 worth of food went straight into the trash, we didnt even try to save it for later. I’m a vegetarian and this is definitely nothing you want to be putting in your body!!!
