The May Day Cafe is a small, crowded, worker-owned cooperative coffee shop in the Powderhorn neighborhood of south Minneapolis. We arrived mid-morning, and the place was packed with what were clearly repeat customers who call the place "home". It's easy to see why: the service is quick and friendly, the pastries are excellent, and the coffee is exceptionally fresh. There's also a nice selection of teas. If you come hungry, May Day offers breakfast burritos and the tallest quiches I've ever seen. A word of warning: the place is always busy, so don't be surprised if you have to wait for a table. The noise level is high, so be prepared to struggle to hear your tablemate. Overall, May Day is what a neighborhood hangout should be—highly recommended.

The atmosphere was extremely inviting, inclusive, and friendly! The music was superb and I would definitely suggest the Iced Caramel Latte!

Very busy, but the food was great, so it was worth it. Two of us had a breakfast sandwich, one had a burrito and all was very enjoyable. My latte was also great.

Got an iced latte and the milk was curdled and made me throw up, the manager was very rude about it because apparently the printed date wasn't expired on the milk jug. Never coming back here again, I can't afford to waste my money and health on spoiled food from cafes.

Really cozy spot for working or just hanging out. But really don’t recommend their baked goods. Their focaccia was very dense and bland. I can’t speak to their other menu items.

Local, quaint, and well worth a stop. Employee owned coffee shop with a beautiful selection of pastries savory and sweet. The coffee menu is pretty standard fair, but is good quality and reasonably priced

First time coming here with some friends, not a ton of seating, but it was easy enough to get a table for three of us. The quiche was great it was fluffy and super cheesey and it came with with a large side salad. The almond croissant was amazing, nice and flaky and nutty. The breakfast burrito was just okay. The coffee drinks were all super tasty. Overall, I liked this place and will be back for the quiche!

Wonderful local co-op. You can get day old bakery items for $1.50. Lots of unique options.

You guys bought a turn-key business with decades of experience and a collection of much loved recipes. Please put things back until you've mastered the old system under new ownership and then experiment with different ingredients and recipes on the side. I'm sure suppliers would be happy to give you samples to test out. Just my opinion but I think a popular one. I've been coming here since 96' and will continue to despite the grumbling, but let's own up to the sub-par focaccia and make it right.
