Fun menu with several sections - definitely recommend trying some yakitori

Years overdue, but one experience was able to define my entire impression of this establishment because the food was really good. Some of the items in my pictures no longer exist on the menu, but I have faith that whatever they have decided to replace those items with must be great as well. It is also cool to see some of the items that I had in 2021 are still around! I am honestly really happy to see it.
Pretty much everything was a hit in my opinion. The A5 wagyu nigiri resulted in one very pleasant bite because the wagyu beef, which was supposed to be fatty in texture, did it work in providing the rice with a rich flavor as well. The panzanella had multiple ingredients such as cucumber, avocado, and serrano pepper, and having a bonito mayo giving it additional flavor made the dish work but in terms of flavor and texture. The stracciatella was interesting because I have never seen salsa verde and wasabi together in one dish, and it tasted pretty good. I wasn't used to it, but I could more than tolerate it for sure. The pork gyoza was really good as well, not only because the wood ear mushrooms provided a layer of texture that the dumpling didn't have, but also because the foie gras provided some richness to the gyoza. In terms of pasta, both the squid ink pappardelle and the fettuccine ai uni were great! The pasta was al dente. There was enough crab and bolognese in the dish. And the pecorino romano cheese in the squid ink pasta provided extra creaminess texture since I mixed it in with the sauce. Both dishes were super solid.
It seems like prices have increased drastically since I was last here in 2021, which I understand is because of inflation, but it makes the dishes way less afforable now. The squid ink pasta, which is still on the menu, went from $23 to $32.5, and that's quite a bit. Because of that, I don't think this is one of those places one would visit all the time. For a special occasion, though, based on the food alone, worth it.

Food was great and the guy who took care of us at the bar was very professional and charming. Unfortunately tons of missed opportunities, so we won’t be coming back. To start - you make a reservation for 8pm, for which they clearly remind you to be on time, that they’ll keep your table 15 min max and that you have a total of 1,5hrs to eat. Then you arrive and they are completely full, they seem almost surprised that you’re there and they put you to wait in a cold side alley and vestible that could be repurposed as a bar, to allow people to start with an aperitif. Instead it is messy, they seem clueless, the people are on time but waiting long time. At a certain point they tell you - we have a squeezed spot at the bar “that just opened” - lucky me! Otherwise it’ll take much longer to get a table. Mind you this was after the host came to get someone else until I reminded her we were before….after a deer-seeing-a light-on-the-road gaze she went back to the main area without any of us joining. The service by the nice guy at the bar was good, as well as the food. But end of the service was as messy as the start: our guy had gone somewhere else and the person who stayed cleaning wasn’t checking out on guests but chatting with another table…we needed to call someone from the other side of the restaurant to order an espresso martini (without espresso, since they only have drip coffee)…which took forever, because it needed to be made by the guy ignoring us in front of our noses.
In general a 3 start…so much potential but not reached

Amazing. Just go and you won’t regret it! Was a little skeptical about the Italian/Japanese fusion aspect, but everything we had was VERY good. I’m kicking myself for not remembering our servers name, but medium length red hair and beard. Knew everything about the menu, ingredients, cocktails, etc. One of the best servers I’ve ever gone on an experience with. Fantastic all around. Super fun culinary journey. Thanks team!!

Mushroom karaage, two yakitori skewers, fra diavolo pasta, and Isaac Becker pizza was all good but not worth the 108 dollar price tag before tip. Nothing blew me out of the water. Pasta is better at italian restaurants. The Japanese fusion was not worth the extra price tag. Yakitori was best part of the meal. Simple and delicious.

Easily one of my top ten meals ever. Very elegant presentation and incredibly fresh ingredients. Servers are knowledgeable about the wine pairings. Perfect for a special occasion meal.
I see the map is grabbing Sanjusan - this review is for Kado.

I have been coming here since it opened. The food presentation and flavors combined with the relaxed but attentive service are well appreciated by those who have experienced a meal at Sanjusan. The Hana Hachi is my favorite cocktail in the cities. Felt the need to leave a review after my finest Sanjusan dinner experience yet on the patio this past weekend.

Menu is interesting with an Italian Japanese fusion but the dishes are executed very well. Some of the best food I have had in years. We booked a reservation for patio seating and were well taken care of. Our waiter answered all our questions and was very attentive yet soft spoken to make the experience intimate. Highly recommend the Mentaiko Lumache I have been thinking about it everyday since. The flavor fusions are immaculate and I will recommend everyone to the spot.

I wish I could give this more stars since the food was great! However, everything came within a span of 25 minutes after sitting down. We were told Sanjusan can course our meal so we ordered everything upfront, and we’re done eating in 35 minutes. Such a bummer when you are looking forward to a nice meal out. It’s okay to say you don’t course things! We would have preferred to order one off if we would have known.

Great service and delicious food! Our favorites are the Hiramasa Crudo and Pork Gyoza. The crudo is one of the best I’ve had in the Twin Cities. I cannot stop thinking about the gyoza and it’s definitely a must-try!
They don’t have tap to pay… the waiter told me “I don’t care” in response to me asking them if they could use my card number… their AC wasn’t working… seating wasn’t available at the time the reservation was set for… net net it didn’t hit the mark…
Great food. Tried the mushroom pizza special and it was exceptional. A little tight in the restaurant, but overall very worth it 👌
