Randomly picked this cafe for lunch when I was in town and I was so glad I did! The food was delicious and the place had a cozy, neighborhood vibe! My lunch date accidentally left her mittens at our table and the server ran them outside to make sure we got them back! Would recommend this place 100%!

Clarified butter is the chef’s secret that makes everything fabulously crispy on the edges.

You have to know right away that they close at 2 PM, they only do early lunch and breakfast. And that’s what they are the star of.

If you are somewhere that knows the value of Homemade biscuit you’re gonna wanna get here because there’s also homemade jam.

Standish is a neighborhood hidden gem that has a unique approach, and the words came right from the owner:

Make good food and good friends
It’s not easy but it is simple

You’re going to want to come for the food, but you’re gonna wanna come back for the community, caring, and warmth of the heart of the business.

They only use natural oils which means, they don’t use industry oils of cheap stuff that isn’t actually good for you
Using olive oil or clarified butter
Has this little magical element that crisps everything.

Biscuits are huge, homemade light, and fluffy and they’re served with a little side of jam, usually four berries.

Monkey bread is a little circle of a magical treat that every bite pulls apart and there’s extra sauce that is poured on the top to dip it in around the ring of banana and pecan. Decadent and perfect for a table to split.

Everything made from scratch, including the corned beef that’s brined in house so if you are coming for corn, beef, hash, or a delicious Reuben, you’re going to get a nice surprise.

Roasted tomatoes and tomatillos are all in house creation, and what that means is the salsa and sauces are full of fresh flavor, the kind that stands up and talks to you.

No soy is also very much on the chef’s mind. We see them using less imgedients treated gently,
So we are back to the kitchen basics from 40 or 50 years ago and all of the current chef knowledge to make it superb in a dining room setting

It is a very small space so weekdays are going to be a real win for breakfast, it fills up for lunch and it’s waiting room only on the weekends.

Also perfect spots to eat alone, diner style seating on one part of the restaurant and group seating on the other.

Wheelchair accessible and easy parking, as well as a kitchen that has double entries, so staff can get around quickly, and that helps when it’s busy.

Genuine, if I were going to name this breakfast as something, it would be genuine. You won’t feel like you have to overindulge, the steak was fabulous and not a rubber band steak, it was a real treat to have good ingredients, paired beautifully, presented simply, and served fresh and hot.

One of the few spots that you can hide away in as a single person and feel welcome, you can have a breakfast meeting on a weekday and not feel like you’re taking someone’s spot, and because it’s simple food it comes out pretty quick, so you can get on with your day if you’re coming in for lunch.

You might wanna take something EXTRA home!

Vegetarian options: The brussels sprouts will rock your world

Dietary restrictions: As I said, in my review, they do not cook with hydrogenated oils, there’s no soy in the kitchen

Parking: There’s about 10 parking spots, but you can park right on the street. It’s a tiny building.

Kid-friendliness: Neighborhood spot, they love kids

Wheelchair accessibility: Easy to get in, and grab bars in the restrooms

I went at around 9:30 on Tuesday and it wasn't too busy, got eggs over easy and hash browns as well as the buttermilk pancakes, and coffee of course. Usually going to sit down restaurants by myself makes me feel awkward but the staff here was very friendly and the atmosphere was cozy, sitting at the window was especially fun.

The food was hearty and just what I was wanting, do be warned the portions are quite big so be careful about ordering too much; the pancakes were as big as my face! Typically I'm a waffles over pancakes type guy but these were lovely, perfect texture and good syrup, the eggs and hash browns were equally as nice and the coffee was absolutely great - a nice simple cup was exactly what I needed.

The pricing makes it not quite cheap enough for an Every-Day type spot but it's fairly priced and I'll definitely be coming back periodically.

Parking: They have a customer parking lot but I missed it and parked down the street. It does seem on the small side so you may have some difficulty finding parking during peak hours but it's not impossible.

Corned beef hash was fantastic! Top 5 on my list, easily. Made from scratch in house, legit. Homemade berry jam was the perfect addition to the hash

Best breakfast in the Twin Cities.
Great dining in or taking out. I appreciate they always answer their phone for orders (if you need to make modifications from the online ordering menu items) — many restaurants don’t do that these days. Delicious food, relaxed atmosphere, friendly service. Highly recommend this gem.

Where do I even start…this place literally CURED me. After a long night of moving and waking up to crisp and chilly fall weather, I needed food that felt like a hug. Standish Cafe checked all the boxes. You can tell this food is made with love and quality ingredients. The chicken links use vegetable casing instead of pork casing, which made me feel super included as I can’t eat pork due to my religious beliefs. I love that the eggs are pasture raised, too. Our server Meagan was super knowledgeable about the entire menu and had a great aura! She already knew that the chicken links were safe for me to eat and was on top of coffee refills/checking in on us.

Go early if you want to try the monkey bread as it was sold out by the time we were seated at ~12:30.

This was my second time here after coming here 2 years ago and getting a great first impression. I’m happy to see that the service and food is still amazing - this place absolutely deserves high ratings and flowers. 💐

Dietary restrictions: Pork free options!

Hands down the best cafe in the Twin Cites! Might even be the best little cafe in Minnesota! Food was excellent! Service was great and there is literally no wait time to get your food. All the ingredients tasted fresh. The environment and atmosphere is warm and inviting. The building is a little small but they make up for it with the service being so fast! This is by far my wife and I’s favorite cafe!
