Dirty dirty dirty Staff and owner don’t give a …. Place will be under by summer It’s a shame
Our visit here was terrible. Our server was incompetent, constantly had to ask us for what we ordered when we told him less than a minute ago, food wasn't brought out together. I ordered a burger, while my dining partner ordered a BLT-A. Well, my burger was brought out and then our server informed us that they had no bacon... after we ordered?? We waited about 15 minutes for them to get the bacon, and then we just switched our order. At the very least the food was good, but the service was absolutely terrible, and the atmosphere was at most passable.
Also, its overpriced to high hell for the portion size.

I know you probably loved this place like I did pre covid… But please I beg you, don’t eat here. Its not worth it I promise you. Just go next door to George & the Dragon. It will save you a GIANT headache.

We came in an hour after opening and chairs were still up on the tables. The place was filthy - it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in several days. It took over 30 minutes to get shakes. There was only one person working and three people walked in stating they were former workers and hadn’t been paid. Bummer as this used to be a neighborhood gem but has obviously gone downhill and has some major issues.

Ordered on line for the 3-grandchildren at 4:00pm. They said it would be done at 5:00pm. At 5:15 order still not done so spoke with manager. He even spoke to my wife on the phone because of no Alfredo sauce. When brought back the hamburger was an inedible hockey puck and the chicken strips were so overcooked not to mention the grilled cheese was so bad we couldn’t eat anything except some fries!! They even forgot the malt on the order!!! We will never come back to this place even being so close to it!!
We were not served or acknowledged for at least 30 minutes. Drinks then took a very long time to arrive. After food was put in, ice cream came out about an hour before burgers. People who came in after us received food first, and we also received food before other people who came in before us. One table left after waiting for service for half an hour. When our food did arrive, there were mistakes in the order. They need to get organized and until they do I would not recommend wasting your time here.

Comically bad. The service is non existent. It took 30 minutes to get served drinks (only after complaining) and then another hour to get our food (only two burgers lol and once again after complaining). They then tried to serve me flat beer that had been sitting in a pitcher I saw them pour when I ordered my first drink an hour ago. Absolute joke of a restaurant. Don't go here.

Holy crap this place is bad!! We used to go here all of the time pre Covid and it was great. The place has basically turned over and the food is gross and malts are terrible. Our bill was $80 for a couple of hamburgers that would make McDonalds quiver. I think we’ve seen the death of this restaurant.

My family and I came in today for lunch. Food took about 25-30 minutes to come out. We had a missing malt and my mom's entire food order (when we paid for everything at the end the server admitted to knowing it never came out, but did not bother to mention that when bringing out everything else initially). Server never checked in on our table. Check was never entered in so we had to list everything we ordered, server continued to mistakenly enter wrong items. I really want to support a local restaurant such as this one, but I will not be coming back.

We used to love this place and came fairly often as a family. After not coming here since pre covid we decided to come again since we were in the area. It was an odd experience to say the least. They were out of Sprite, only had Coke and Root Beer for fountain drinks. Onion rings was listed as a side you could choose but they were out of those also. One person in our group ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich, the cook brought out that plate because it took almost 10 minutes longer than the rest of the meal. When it came it was obviously charred black on the outside, and when the person in our group bit into it they said it tasted like charcoal and it was questionable if it was cooked all the way through. We also had to remind the server one person ordered a Coke and the appetizer came out with the meals. The restaurant had been remolded since we’d last been there so I’m wondering if it’s under new management or new owners. Unfortunately, what used to be a great place to go, seems like that is no longer the case.

Once in a generation, a meal this bad comes along. A meal so bad that it shocks you to your very core, and causes you to question the very nature of existence (of restaurants). For me, that meal happened today. And it happened at The Malt Shop. My son and I arrived at 1:42pm on a Friday--a time that should have been relatively safe in terms of a restaurant being overwhelmed with customers. And indeed, for most of our visit it was just us, and a table with three teenagers. We ordered our food around 2:00 and began to wait. And wait. And wait. I wasn't really in a hurry, since they had board games, and so my son and I were able to keep ourselves entertained for the long haul. However, by 2:20 it started to seem like something was wrong. And at 2:30, the server came over and informed us that the restaurant was out of hamburger buns and they had sent someone over to a grocery store to buy some. Mind you, we had already been there for nearly an hour at this time. Around 2:50, the cook returned with bags of groceries and when the food finally came, nothing we received was particularly close to what we had ordered. My picky-eater son sent his cheeseburger back. The second attempt was slightly closer and when I commented that it still had pickles and no lettuce, the cook became defensive and told us that he was doing his best. I elected to eat my burger as delivered, although it had none of the condiments that I had ordered. (I'm also not sure how they managed to serve me cold onion rings, but they did.)
How was the ambience, you ask? Partway through our time there, they turned off whatever their usual music was and cranked up Jack Johnson to a near-deafening level until I finally asked that it be turned down. I don't know how it's possible to even tolerate Jack Johnson, let alone enjoy it. And we had to suffer through an entire album of it.
When the check finally came, we had been there almost two full hours. (It was about one hour and fifty minutes.) I guess I had assumed that perhaps they would comp part of the meal, but alas no. The cook even jokingly suggested that he wouldn't hold it against me if I didn't tip. And you know what? I did not tip. And you know what else? He absolutely did hold it against me. In my nealy fifty years, I can count on one hand the number of times that a meal has been so transcenedntly bad as to warrant no tip. And friends, this was that once in a generation meal.
Oh, and how did the teenagers fare from act I of our story? They left about an hour and a half in without getting their food.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME HERE! I went to this restaurant with my coworker for lunch two days ago. To say this place is extremely underwhelming is an understatement. When my coworker and I walked up to order we were told by the only employee in the restaurant that it would take a while to fill the order because he had to go talk to his beer vendors. I ordered the California Burger with fries and a Coke which took forever to get. After taking the first sip of my Coke I realized it was really flat. When I sent it back and asked for water the employee proceeded to defend the quality of the Coke. Next, while the employee was making the burger I was told that he didn't have avocado. I would think if a restaurant is offering a specific burger they would make sure to have all the ingredients. Once I finally received my food, I noticed something didn't look right about the meat in the burger (the middle of the meat was white and when I picked it up to eat it the juice also didn't look right). When I assessed the employee's appearance, his hands were dirty and there was dirt under his finger nails. The overall appearance of the restaurant and bathroom were so unclean that I immediately felt sick to my stomach. It was made worse when I realized there wasn't any handsoap in the bathroom, the bathroom looked disgustingly unclean, the tables weren't cleared or wiped off and there was food gunk all over the floor. To add insult to injury, I started to experience stomach and intestinal distress that evening after eating there. This distress continued into yesterday to the extent that I ended up experiencing moderate symptoms of food poisoning. Don't waste your time patronizing this business. Also, if you look at reviews for this business, there are instances where the owner commented to reviews with the verbiage that consisted of excuses for why the service, appearance and food are so poor. As a customer I don't want to hear excuses I want to hear steps for improvement. To the owner of this business, your poor excuses for why the appearance, food, and service are so poor aren't my problem. I don't want to hear them. DO BETTER! As for me, I will not be patronizing this business again!
