We have dinner on the patio and it was perfect weather. The service was excellent and fun. Food was solid .
This is easily, and without a doubt, the worst “southern inspired” restaurant I’ve ever been to. I was born and raised in Alabama and you can find better soul food at any gas station or grocery store you come across. You would think that a black man with lineage to Mississippi would take more pride in representing his family heritage better than this. Even Hy-Vee in Iowa will blow this place away with quality of ingredients and taste. Somehow, the fried chicken was dry and soggy at the same time. It’s anlso apparent that the owner has never had real pimento cheese or collard greens in his life. Do yourself a favor and buy a can of wet cat food if you want to have a better culinary experience. If this food was ever brought to any of my family gatherings, you would be asked to leave immediately. Don’t waste your time or your money at this restaurant unless you just plan to sit at the bar and get drunk. Even then, you probably won’t have any quality customer service.
Been here on two other occasions. Noticed some changes w/ food quality on my 3rd visit. Brisket was dry.
Spacious and comfortable atmosphere. Huge bar where we could enjoy drinks and dinner. Bartender Alisa was very friendly and a wonderful server. GM Nate was very nice and personable as well.
My husband had a DELICIOUS blueberry-themed pork loin with blueberry sauce, scallion potato cake, blueberry slaw, and I indulged in the 8 ounce Secreto tender pork cut with Cedar braised beans and fennel leek puree. Pork was salty and overwhelmed the meal, so I would mention less salt in the preparation if you order.
Nice cocktail and wine selections!
Great food and wonderful service. Grits were a little spicy but delicious. I also got the crab cake hush puppies and they were very good with a flakey breading
We were looking forward to dinner before a show. Went to the patio. No host there. Went inside. Sign said go to patio and see host. Went back to patio. Stood there 10 minutes. Never saw a host. Eventually two spots opened up at bar. Took even longer for bartender to get our order. She was nice. No problems there. Ordered a pork sandwich and a chicken ceaser salad. My girlfriend loved the chicken on the salad. I thought it was pretty darn good too. My sandwich on the other hand was not good. Very disappointed. Meat looked like it came out of a tub and it tasted like microwaveable Loyd’s BBQ. I’m sure it wasn’t, but it was not good. Maybe better with creamy slaw but it was vinegar slaw on vinegar sauce. Best part was the goofy fries. Those things were tasty.
Food , drinks and service here is amazing! Our waitress was so sweet and so attentive! Kudos to the chef for preparing me a delicious gluten free option! I took my daughter here for 40th Birthday and I will certainly be back!
We have been wanting to try this place as everything else on the street is incredible. We also wanted something more laid back then WA Frost so we came here. We sat outside which was a very nice patio area with super comfortable chairs but there was a bunch of food on the ground under our table from previous diners I guess. Our server was nice but seemed to be the only one working outside so it was hard to get their attention for ordering. We got the fried green tomatoes which were good, the brisket sandwich was probably our favorite, the Carolina BBQ sandwich which was pretty good but nothing too special, and an order of the fries which were actually really good, thick cut fries with remoulade. The main issue we had was once we got the final bill. The meals we ordered were around $17-$18 and included a side. There is no mention of additional charge for certain sides but we were charged $4 each for adding Mac n cheese (which was unfortunately bland) as our side. We both had 2 drinks each, my wife had 2 glasses of wine and I had 2 seltzers. The bill came out to almost $160 which just seemed very high for the quality of food and service. The fried green tomatoes were $14-$16 and it was roughly 4 thin slices of tomato. The manager removed the additional charges for sides after we asked why we were charged, which was nice. The main issue is we just can't help but think of all the other great restaurants in the area where we would've spent just as much money but received much higher quality food and service. Maybe this place is good to share some appetizers and drinks but I can't say I'll be returning for sure. Really wanted to like it though and I'm typically easy to please.
Just average. The fried green tomatoes were exceptional, out of the ribs. Brisket ,pulled pork and chicken were about what you've had at a lot of places. This was lacking anything notable. Crème brûlée should be avoided. The place was almost empty at 6:30 on a Sunday. Maybe it's lost its sparkle.
This was our first time here and we were disappointed that the ribs and the Secreto and the mussels were sold out, all items we wanted to order. wait staff was too pushy, brought entrees too soon after we ordered our starters. Portions were generous, flavorful entrees.

Midday menu was an eclectic interesting mix but we all found something to enjoy in our party of 5. Drinks were great, smoked old fashioned very good and the dirty bird (mocktail version similar to a mojito). Server was personable and gave great recommendations. The smoked creme brulee was good. Cheesecake was kind of gritty. Overall we really enjoyed and would return.
You must get the fried green tomatoes and ask for the remoulade on the side. I don't think you can go wrong with anything that you order. Cocktails were delicious and had hilarious names, we tried C.R.E.A.M. And 2 Bananas, 1 Hammock.
I was very excited to go have dinner at the Handsome Hog after having an excellent cocktail there a year before. I ordered the same cocktail which was watered down and took 20+ minutes to get. The server was nice but the service INCREDIBLY slow. Food (entrees) took 45-hour and appetizer took ten mins shy of that. The chicken and waffles was tasty, but then came the long slow wait for checks and to pay. If you go here, maybe don't go on a weekend (though it wasn't a fully sat night) and just do a drink at the bar - and only if not busy!
We love the handsome hog. Last night the food was a bit off. The brisket was dry and the pulled pork was a little bland. The service was great though!
First time at Handsome Hog and the food was delicious. We celebrated our son birthday and they did an amazing job. We will definitely go back.
