Awesome green salsa! Love the papas and jalapeno stuffed bacon wrapped shrimp! The only reason for 4 starts was the waitress wasn't the best. Sad part is I heard her mention she had been there for years. Even after asking for a refill and her coming to the table a couple more times, I still didn't get it. My drink being empty is a huge pet peeve of mine.
To be fair, I live in Texas, and this location is in Kansas... That being said, they did bring out the wrong food, and none of it tasted that great. They made it right by bringing the missing part of my meal, but it just was not as satisfying as the Abuelo's near home. Service was good though, so 2 stars not one. It wasn't Abuelo's, just this location thereof.
I've been coming here since it was built. I moved away from the area and came back for the first time in several years. The food was good. The mojitos are still super awesome. Both of our orders were wrong, but close enough to go ahead and eat because we didn't want to wait longer. The server was weird. She would walk away from us mid sentence (our mid sentence, not hers). But she kept the drinks refilled. So overall, it was ok.
Abuelo's has some of the best Tex-Mex in America, and service and atmosphere to match. Your table begins with thin, crispy chips (ask for salt) and three grades of salsa. You can and should order a shareable appetizer, as the entrees take an appropriate while to emerge from the kitchen.
Upscale Mexican/Spanish. The best I've had. Melt-in-your-mouth chili renello and enchiladas. Well prepared. Try the papas (cream potatoes) instead of rice.
Comfortable atmosphere with lots of good choices, even on the kids menu. Chips come out with three different salsas, the tomatillo was my favorite. Was able to stay on my low carb, high protein diet by limiting chips.
Enjoy eating at Abuelo's. The menu has several items not usually found at Mexican restaurants. Prices are a little on the high side
I've been coming here since this place opened and it has gradually gone down hill every year. The quality of food is lacking. Their tamales are the size of a large thumb. They do have a gluten free menu now that contains maybe 6 items on it. They chips theybuse for gluten free I don't recommend. They're bland and just bad. The service from their servers has also gone down.
Beautiful restaurant, lovely decor. Went there for lunch midweek so it was not busy. People were super friendly and our server was cheerful and attentive....food....meh. Not bad, but not great either. Trying to stay keto friendly so that could he a factor. Would definitely give this one another shot if and when the opportunity arises
I think it's a bit overpriced. Especially the drinks. . But the atmosphere is pretty cool. My wife and I love the salmon Dish they have. Never had a bad bite at Abuelo's before. . Keep up the good work.
