Been waiting a while for this one! Just got fired so I can finally spill. This place is AWFUL!!!!!! First off dirty- as an employee we were never taught how to properly sanitize anything. My “ boss “ just told be to rinse things off. Not even use soap. I was barely trained and expected to train another employee less than 1 month in. The frosting bags are covered in black spots. What once started off as a white bag are now yellow and black dots cover the whole thing. Cupcakes would occasionally even get moldy without me knowing how long they’d been served to people. The cherries are left in an open container and we have to use our hands to dig in the cherry jar. We have asked for gloves for 3 months and nothing. We’ve been shut down by the health department and have failed multiple inspections. I truly have such a passion for baking but we literally use BOX MIX for your $6 cupcake. The manager didn’t come into the store for over 2 months and when she did it was more of a mess than before. She constantly leaves us low on ingredients without any communicating leaving us screwed on peoples orders. I can’t even tell you how many orders weren’t made correctly because of missing product. She literally told us that if we’re out of something to use whatever looks closest. This place is a NIGHTMARE for customers and employees. Almost every complaint on here was directly due to her disrespectful negligence towards her customers and employees. I was extremely embarrassed to work at this disgusting establishment I just wanted a cute baking job and to hopefully learn more. Not to mention she was constantly taking money out of our paychecks and once I would call her out then she would send it in a different paycheck. I tried so hard to clean up this place when I started just for it to go unnoticed. Overall, HORRIBLE OWNER, disgusting environment, expired food, and an insane amount of chaos. The boss would cancel orders 30 minutes before they were do and make us as employees call these people just to get cussed out. Understandable but not our fault. She would say she’s not aware but SHE DOES!!! She is made aware of all of these things and still refuses to respond, come into the store, or fix it. I could go on forever, Please don’t go here

Has been my favorite cup cake store for a very long time. I don’t live in KC and made a special trip to buy 10 cupcakes($60). They boxed them up and I made my 3 hour trip home. I got home to find very dry cupcakes and NUTS in my wedding cake flavored cupcakes. I call the store back to let them know how poorly there cupcakes were and ask if recipe had changed. Sales person was very unhelpful. We DEFINITELY not being coming back. So very disappointed. Poor quality and poor customer service!

I used to like this place, but its really fallen off. They ice the cupcakes to order and it’s 10 minutes wait for 4 cupcakes. No one goes in to order cupcakes and expects to stand there for 10 minutes waiting for them to be made. I liked it better when the shop was respectful of people’s time. It also seems like this place can not consistently stay open. There’s been multiple days where the drive was made only to find they were closed during business hours.
FYI here is what you’re waiting for. The frosting immediately moves and shifts off. And part of my red velvet cupcake was missing.
For $22 for cupcakes i would expect better.
I also emailed the address listed in my response and have not heard a peep back from them in a week. Clear that the response here was just for the views/impressions and they did not care about making it right.
While I’ve previously been one of their biggest advocates using them for multiple special orders and occasions and stopping by once a month. I won’t be returning and would no longer recommend them.

The reason for the poor review is because as I was eating it, I discovered a rubber band mixed into my icing. Very disappointed that however prep goes would allow for trash to get mixed into the food and sold

Although the cupcakes are delicious, they are very disorganized. I do not recommend large orders, even if you call to confirm pickup time, it is unlikely that the cupcakes will be ready. I have one event for 100 cupcakes fall through completely 2 weeks before the event, and recently called to confirm a pickup of 40 cupcakes for 12pm when they opened, specifically asking if they would be ready right at opening. I was assured that they would be ready for 12pm pickup.
Once I arrived on the event day, the individual working said they had just put them in the oven and they were not ready, and had no idea the pickup time was noon. We were able to make it waiting 30min and swapping out a flavor, but recommend only ordering to go for yourself!

I have had a wonderful experience at Cup Cake A La Mode. We purchased a large order cupcakes for a work event and they were amazing! Everything was completed on schedule with great quality. Very friendly and patient staff. I only have positive things to say about Cafe A La Mode on the Plaza. I plan to use them again for events in the future!
Horrible. This isn’t a cupcake. The inside is some kind of consistency of sponge/pound cake that is just awful. We got three, and they are all the same inside. We used to get these and loved them, for they tasted and had the consistency of a small delicious cake. This company needs to advertise as exactly what they are, and it’s not a cupcake shop.

The inconsistency of the quality of these cupcakes is a real bummer for how expensive they are. Sometimes they’re fresh, moist, and tasty, and other days they’re stale and look sloppy and hurriedly thrown together. Today I had a friend go grab us some cupcakes on his break, and when he returned I noticed there was mold on the bottom of the wrapper and cupcake after I had already started eating it. I went back to the store and showed the associate who confirmed it was mold. She was kind and I wasn’t expecting a super grand gesture or refund, I just wanted a replacement. But for the price you pay, it’s difficult to see how this would even happen. The whole vibe of the store is just off. There’s usually no music playing, it’s very stuffy in there, and the staff is usually very quiet and timid and are very straight to the point rather than welcoming and helpful
Picking up for a work order to deliver to a client. Store was dirty and looked unfinished. The one employee there lacked in any personality or helpfulness. I thought she was writing down my order and then she had me regurgitate the whole order after she spent a long time in the back trying to put it together, it was only six cupcakes. Couldn't print a receipt didn't have a bag to carry them.... Nothing impressive.

I stated clearly when I placed my order for 24 cupcakes that I would pick them up in the morning. I arrived at 12:02. Gal told me they were not ready. They were waiting on me to call??? Why would I NOT pick them up since I was already charged. It takes them an hour (incredible) to ice 24 cupcakes! I had to rearrange my entire afternoon schedule to pick them up before the event this evening. Good cupcakes, but not for so much trouble and cost. Won't use them for future events.

I want to start by saying we LOVE the taste of these cupcakes and order them frequently, however it’s so hit and miss on what we get that we’ve slowly backed off ordering them.I regularly order the cannoli cupcake. It’s advertised as a chocolate chip cupcake with powdered sugar and a cannoli crisp on top. Before tonight, I’ve never gotten it with a cannoli chip or powdered sugar, just the icing, but no big deal.Tonight my cannoli cupcake randomly had the powdered sugar on it, however when I cut into the cupcake, there were no chocolate chips and it was only vanilla cake.We also ordered a chocolate kiss cupcake and received a raspberry cheesecake cupcake instead.There have been other small instances but overall just don’t feel like there’s a lot of quality control or care put into the service which is sad because they truly are some of the best cupcakes I’ve had. We just want to know what we’re getting when we order!
