One of the best hidden gems around!
I’ve been holding off on writing this because I selfishly wanted to gatekeep it—but it’s too good not to share. This place is amazing. The food takes me right back to my time living in California—authentic, flavorful, and consistently delicious. The staff is always warm and welcoming, and my food is always ready fast with no long wait times. I come here religiously, and every single visit hits the spot. If you’re looking for real, quality Mexican food with great service, this is the place!

If you live in Kansas City and have not been to this restaurant you are missing out. I have been here in KC for 4 years and not found a decent Mexican restaurant until Tatema. This is the best. From the rice, the beans to the main items amazing! The brown salsa is unique and the most flavorful you will have anywhere. All recipes are that of the owner behind the grill. She's what makes this food unbelievable. While there I ordered 24 tamales for upcoming holiday. I can't wait to try them.

Best quesabirria tacos I've ever had

Randomly stopped in and ordered a horchata and churros to go. Staff was friendly and the decor was nice, though it was a bit warm inside. My order was ready in a few minutes. The churros were incredible—easily the best I’ve ever had, with a cinnamon sugar filling, honey on the side, and a scoop of cookies & cream ice cream.

This place is so good the food is way better than other restaurants there service is amazing and there chips are perfect the food is so good

Super clean and friendly! Food was quick and delicious. I am so excited I finally tried this place. I will become a regular for sure. Maybe the best Mexican food in the area!

One tiny ding on the atmosphere, the TV was a little too loud. Maybe I am old. 😂

After moving back from Mexico, I looked everywhere for a place that the tacos was as good as the tacos in j Town. This place was pretty close. I would eat there again

Amazing

Sign was missing, but the food more than made up for it. Got a birria torta, chicken street tacos, and a side order of beans; all of it was phenomenal, including the sauces. Definitely a restaurant in rotation for our house now.

Best street tacos in the area and maybe KC ! El Gallo is a staple in our house. Tacos are always awesome and staff is always kind and welcoming. Highly recommend

So good, every time.

New owner more expensive and not near as good. I have given them three visits this is me last.
